Davina McCall responds to backlash regarding comments on keeping her man satisfied in the bedroom
Davina McCall has responded to criticism of comments she made in an interview about keeping her husband satisfied in the bedroom to prevent him from straying.
“You must keep your husband satisfied in the bedroom department,” she added, “even if you’re absolutely exhausted. Otherwise he will go somewhere else," she told The Telegraph.
The paper wrote, "Wearing nice lingerie and keeping your husband satisfied in the bedroom are the keys to a happy marriage, according to Davina McCall."
She also spoke about watching her diet to stay trim, “I want to stay as much as I can like the girl that Matthew married".
McCall has been married to Matthew Robertson for 16 years and they have three children. They recently renewed their wedding vows as the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.
However, Davina's comments provoked some backlash on Twitter, prompting the 47-year-old TV presenter to address the issue on her website thisisdavina.com.
She wrote, "Argggghhhhhh! I've got myself in a controversy!!!! In the paper this weekend I talked about a couple of things that I would like to explain further...
"So I thought I would tell you in my own words what I mean.
"Firstly, I do like to wear matching underwear... no biggy... I don’t do it for Matthew... I do it for me.
"Does he like my matching nude t-shirt bra and pants? No, not particularly... does that stop me wearing it..? No.
"If I want to feel hot and sexy I wear nice undies... if I'm at work, and for practicality, I wear really boring ones... but always matching.
"Right, next… my husband…
"I do not submit to my husband, nor does he submit to me.
"My mum said, to keep your man happy, stay intimate.
"Sometimes, especially when the kids were very young and I was super tired, this was the last thing on my mind… has he ever coerced or pressured me? NO!!!
"But have I ever started feeling tired and finished feeling very happy? Yes!!
"Can't really believe I am discussing this...
And every single woman I know feels the same.
"Really what my mum was saying, and I also believe, is that if intimacy goes, for months, or a year, then it’s super hard to get back and it becomes 'a thing'.
"I love Matthew... and neither of us want that to happen… so we work at it! Together…
"I hope I make sense!"
McCall will co-host a new series of Long Lost Family, the ITV show that reunites adopted children with their birth parents, beginning on Wednesday, June 3, at 9pm.
