The singer caused a stir when she tweeted about the Middle East.

Yesterday morning, a tweet which read #FreePalestine appeared on Rihanna’s Twitter feed.

A mere eight minutes later, the tweet disappeared, but not before it was re-tweeted thousands of times.

Immediately, many of Rihanna’s 36 million followers were asking her why she was pro-Palestine.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ have reported a source close to the singer as saying,

“Rihanna was reading about the Middle East conflict online when she clicked a link. She didn't even know a tweet was sent out until fans were tweeting her and asking if she was pro-Palestine.”

The source added that Rihanna was not taking sides relating to the Middle Eastern conflict.

"She is pro-peace...She doesn't want innocent people dying."

In an attempt to damage control, the singer published this tweet.
