Cheryl 'brought to tears' by ex-husband Ashley Cole's well wishes over new baby
Cheryl was reportedly "brought to tears" over her ex-husband's well wishes after she welcomed her first child.
The Fight For This Love singer (33) gave birth to a little boy with boyfriend Liam Payne (23) last month and has been inundated with congratulatory messages from friends, family and A-listers alike.
But it was a note from her ex-husband Ashley Cole, whom she was married to for four years from 2006 to 2010, that hit home for her.
The former couple split due to his infidelities and he has since moved on and has a one-year-old son with girlfriend Sharon Canu.
"(He) wished Cheryl and Liam only happiness in their future," a source told Closer magazine.
"He told Cheryl how lucky her son is to have her and he always knew she'd make an amazing mum."
"(Ashley’s) message brought (Cheryl) to tears and she admitted it finally felt like closure for their relationship."
Fatherhood seems to have softened Cole who shared a heartfelt message for his son on social for his birthday last month.
"Every day I wake up to the most beautiful thing I could ever dream of: a son that makes my heart melt, a son that never stops smiling, a son that can make me laugh no matter what kind of mood I'm in.
"A son that I'm proud of, a son I watch fall asleep because I never want to leave him, a son who reminded me what's most important in life. Happy 1st birthday son I will always be with you forever."
The former premier league footballer isn't the only famous face to gift the new parents - Khloe Kardashian, who Cheryl met when they worked on X Factor USA together in 2012, reportedly sent her a baby hamper filled with goods from Harrods department store, believed to be worth nearly €6,000.
Cheryl was vocal about her admiration of Khloe when they first met, saying: "Sometimes in life you come across people you just connect with, that was exactly how I felt when I met Khloe… I felt I knew her already.
"She has such a big heart and a very special soul."
While Cheryl wouldn't comment on her pregnancy, only revealing one image of her holding her large bump days before the new arrival, former Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding said she had been really wanting a family since Kimberley Walsh welcomed her first child in 2014.
"Cheryl’s been broody for years. I think she’s wanted a baby since Kimberley first fell pregnant. Cheryl has achieved a lot in her career but becoming a mum was always her ultimate goal."
