Catherine Zeta Jones looks back to her best after sporting a questionable new look last month.

The Oscar-winning actress (48) raised eyebrows after a surprise appearance at FIFA's The Best Football Awards in London, sporting a puffy looking face and looking rather unrecognisable to the world famous superstar we know her as. And while she stayed mum on suggestions she may have gone under the knife, she is already back on the red carpet and looking better than ever.

The mother-of-two was one of the guests at The Children's Monologues at New York City's Carnegie Hall on Tuesday night alongside a star-studded audience, wearing an all-black ensemble, poker straight hair with more natural looking makeup.

Last year, she denied getting surgery to keep her youthful glow,, but said wouldn't rule it out in future.

"But I'm not anti-plastic surgery at all. Contrary to public opinion, I have not been under the knife ... yet, is what I say! If I feel like it, I'm going to go ahead and do it," she told Good Housekeeping.

"If (surgery) makes you feel better, who am I to tell someone that it's wrong."

As for the secrets to her age-defying appearance, she credits healthy eating and exercise.

“I’m finding, just from traveling from New York and being in heated hotel rooms, my skin feels like a Walker’s crisp at the moment," she said.

"But I’ve been using some argan oil just to saturate my skin at night, so it has some nourishment as I sleep, to start the day a little bit more hydrated. But the real hydration comes from within. You can never drink too much water. No diet sodas. I really feel it's healthy for a body to sweat every day. I run on my treadmill or power walk outside."

Zeta Jones, who is married to actor Michael Douglas, has taken a step back from acting in recent years but is back with a bang and recently underwent a physical transformation for her role as a drug dealer in Cocaine Godmother, in which she plays Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco.
