Cassie Stokes on finding love with girlfriend Kathleen: 'Be happy with yourself first'
She's madly in love with girlfriend Kathleen Gauvin after the pair rekindled their romance last year and Cassie Stokes has revealed the secret to making your relationship work.
The Xpose host (29) rekindled her relationship with Gauvin, a medical underwriter from Canada, after the pair split when Cassie returned home to Ireland last year for the TV3 gig after three and a half years together.
But absence really does make the heart grow fonder as Gauvin had moved to Dublin by the end of the 2016.
"The secret to a good relationship is probably just being happy with yourself and keeping yourself happy as well," Cassie said.
"If someone is going to make you unhappy, don't do it. We work well together."
The couple recently enjoyed their first holiday together since reuniting with a trip to Portugal.
Cassie has previously said she feels lucky that Kathleen "even looked at her".
"She's enjoying her time here. She's working away and she's loving it," she said.
The couple have just returned from a two-week holiday to Portugal.
Despite her intense work schedule fronting the busy entertainment show, Cassie, from Dundrum, said she doesn't put too much pressure on herself when it comes to her appearance and while she might be a gym bunny, she prefers the benefits of physical exercise to helping her energy levels.
"I don't know if I look good but when I feel happy I look okay," she said.
"I try and look after myself so that I look good for me. I don't care what someone is telling me. I'm just like, 'Did I feel nice? Did I have energy?'
"I would work out in the gym. Just to have energy because we work hard. If I'm going to London tomorrow, I want the energy to do it."
Speaking about her work on the series, Cassie said: "It's still going good. I still have a job and that's lovely."
Xpose is currently hosted by only three presenters after Ruth O'Neill quit the show in May after less than a year, saying she hopes to pursue work in London or New York.
However, unlike her former colleague, Cassie is thrilled with the show and said her only plans for the next few months are "work, work and work".
"I did the Dublin Horse Show and I'd love to do more gigs like that. If anyone wants to pay me to talk for four hours, I will gladly do that," she said.
Cassie has come under fire from vicious online trolls since she became a familiar face on the small screen, but said she has learned not to let them upset her.
"There's always going to be trolls, but I try and stay away from them as much as I can," she said.
"I just like happy vibes. I try to have a thick skin. Listen, you can't think too much about it. Everyone has their own opinions. I have my own opinions. I just try my best to ignore the negatives."
