Can you believe she's nearly 60? Michelle Pfeiffer steals the show in glittering gown at Venice Film Festival
It's been a long time since we've seen Michelle Pfeiffer on the red carpet and the legendary actress made sure it was worth the wait.
Pfeiffer (59) has long been regarded as one of Hollywood's most famous beauties since she burst onto the scene in the '80s and more than 30 years later, not much has changed. After a hiatus from acting in recent years, she is back with one of the most talked about movies at the Venice Film Festival - Darren Aronofksy's Mother!, a psychological horror which has divided critics.
The Scarface star looked sensational in a glittering metallic gown by Michael Kors as she hit the red carpet on Tuesday night alongside co-stars Javier Bardem and Jennifer Lawrence to mark her return to the spotlight. And her loved-up appearance alongside husband of 24 years David E. Kelley that proved that some Hollywood marriages can stand the test of time.
Earlier this year, Pfeiffer revealed she "disappeared" from Hollywood in order to focus on raising her two children Claudia Rose (24 and John Henry (23). "I’ve never lost my love for acting. I’m a more balanced person, honestly, when I’m working. But I was pretty careful about where I shot, how long I was away, whether or not it worked out with the kids’ schedule. And I got so picky that I was unhireable. And then...I don’t know, time just went on...I disappeared, yeah," she told Vanity Fair in March.
Now that her children are out of the house, she is ready for a career renaissance and has appeared in HBO project with Robert DeNiro The Wizard of Lies, indie film Where is Kyra? and Murder on the Orient Express, which will be released later this year.
Meanwhile, Mother! has received mixed reviews, with reports it was booed after its showing at the Sala Grande in Venice, but it has been largely praised by film critics and there has been no suggestion it will be a contender during awards season.
