Caitlyn Jenner praised Ireland for its treatment of the LGBT community in an inspiring speech delivered in Dublin.
The 68-year-old reality tv star was honoured at Thursday night's inaugural Xpose Benefit Awards at Mansion House, where she was given the Beauty Icon award. Jenner began by detailing her Irish roots, saying: "I feel like your long lost daughter that's been hiding over in the States."
Her words soon took a turn towards the serious as she emphasised the importance of internal beauty. "We talk about beauty, fashion, all those types of things...first of all, the way I look at it, I look at this room and there are beautiful women everywhere, I think beauty is more than just what you see. Beauty is about your soul," she said.
"It's about what you do for society, what you give back to mankind."
Jenner chronicled her transition at the age of 65, saying that she had fresh insight into the multi-faceted layers of womanhood.
"It's given me an interesting perspective, I remember one time, somebody asked, 'Are you a feminist?' I said, 'Oh my God, I never even thought about, what do you mean am I a feminist?' It was just a lot of issues out there that I'm working on. If you think a feminist is a woman who is strong, who is independent, intelligent and can take this world and grasp it and go after it, yes there's a lot of things," she explained.
"In my community, in the trans community, the L, the G, the B and the T, the T portion is the most underfunded by far. I really judge a people and a country by the way they treat the LGBT community, I just have to say Ireland has done such a good job when it comes to these issues.
"There's other countries around the world, in fact I'll be in Israel, who have done a wonderful job in the face of civil rights, when what's happening in the L, the G, the B or the T, they'll hang you; it's an amazing thing."
The Olympic gold medallist was the big-name attraction at last night's ceremony which saw some of Ireland's most famous faces walk the pink carpet for the invite only event.
In a true throwback to the days of yore, when Katie Price was regularly flown to the capital for various ceremonies, Love Island star Montana Brown and tv personality Calum Best were among the guests, but organisers scored a major coup by securing Jenner as their top-billing name.
Last night's even attracted some familiar Irish faces including Pippa O'Connor, who attended with husband Brian Ormond, rising star Barry Keoghan and girlfriend Shona Guerin, with top creative talent who were nominated among the 14 categories.
