Boy George 'not returning' to The Voice on ITV

Singer Boy George will not be returning as a coach on The Voice when the show starts on ITV next year.

He confirmed the news on Twitter in reply to a question from a fan.

George tweeted: " Not doing this season of 'The Voice on ITV but sending @iamwill my love. Watch this space for what I am up to!"

Black Eyed Peas singer confirmed at the weekend that he will return to the panel.

It is not yet known if any of the other coaches who made up the panel when the show was on the BBC - Ricky Wilson or Paloma Faith - will return. has been a fixture on the show since it first aired on the BBC in 2012.

Announcing his return, he said: "I'm delighted to be continuing The Voice UK on ITV and being a voice of direction and guidance for the usual suspects, and I'm thrilled to add The Voice Kids to the mix ... I know The Voice switched to ITV, but I'm not going to Brexit The Voice UK. I'm happy to make ITV my home now. I love the UK."

He will also be a coach on spin-off The Voice Kids when it starts in 2017.

Big Brother presenter Emma Willis will host the talent show when the new series debuts early next year.

The winner of the 2017 series will be given a record contract with Polydor Records, home to global music stars such as Take That and Ellie Goulding.

ITV announced in November last year that it had acquired the series for three years from 2017.
