Some of the biggest names of stage and screen will bring to life famous letters from history when Letters Live returns in October.

In March, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jude Law, Olivia Colman, Carey Mulligan, Russell Brand and Oscar Isaac were among the stars to move audiences to tears and laughter as they read out memorable historic letters at the event.

The line-up for the next Letters Live remains a secret even to ticket-buyers but the guests are expected to be of equal calibre when it returns to Freemasons' Hall in London's Covent Garden from October 4-8.

Speaking about the upcoming run, Sherlock star Cumberbatch said: "Letters Live is a truly unique experience that allows people from all ages and all walks of life to experience a moment of time in someone else's life for a brief moment.

"Hearing their letters read aloud in such a magical setting allows us to share the happiness, sadness, excitement, and pain of that moment together.

"I can't wait to see what letters are discovered for October 2016."

Earlier this year, audiences heard Star Wars actor Isaac read a letter from Sir Alec Guinness about 1977's A New Hope, complaining, "can't say I'm enjoying the film" and dismissing its dialogue as "rubbish".

Suffragette actress Carey Mulligan read out a cancer patient's mother's heartbreaking letter to JK Rowling, while comedian Matt Berry revealed Elvis had once begged Richard Nixon to let him into the US secret service.

Running since 2013 and inspired by Shaun Usher's international best-selling Letters of Note series, different charities benefit each year, with March's funds going to refugees in Calais.

:: Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am.
