Benedict Cumberbatch makes red carpet debut with fiancée Sophie Hunter (but hides her ring)

It looks like we'll have to wait another while before catching a glimpse of Sophie Hunter's engagement ring.

The theatre director and fiance Benedict Cumberbatch announced their engagement earlier this month in The Times of London, bur she's keeping the rock under wraps for now.

The couple, who first met in 2009, beamed as they walked hand in hand on the red carpet for the first time in relationship.

In spite of knowing each other for five years, they only began seeing each other earlier this year. The beautiful brunette joined the hunky actor for the New York premiere of The Imitation Game last night, wearing a navy tulle gown with floral embroidery.

Last week the short confirmation appeared in British newspaper The Times, confirming the 38-year-old actor is to marry Sophie. Some were surprised that the star chose that route rather than announcing the news via he spokesperson, but he doesn't understand what the fuss is about.

“It’s what I would have done if I wasn’t famous. It’s a normal thing to do in my country,” he told USA TODAY. “It was a way of telling our friends who we hadn’t been able to tell before [they saw] some grainy shot of a ring on her finger.”
