TV presenter Amanda Byram has opened up about finally finding happiness with husband Julian Okines in an unexpectedly candid chat discussing ending her previous engagement.
The popular tv personality (43), who is currently hosting RTE's Dancing With The Stars alongside Nicky Byrne, was engaged to retired rugby player Craig McMullen for three years before ending the relationship in 2011.
And while she has always maintained tight-lipped on the motivation behind the split, only saying long-distance put undue pressure on them, she has finally opened up about the the dissolution of the relationship and how it prepared her for love with husband Julian Okines.
"You don't know he's the one from that very first moment, but I certainly thought he was handsome," she told the RTE Guide of Okines.
"I had been single for a very long time. I had cancelled a wedding when I was 38. It was a month before the wedding which was to be in France with everything ready to go, but my parents said to me, 'You're not happy', so I walked away and that was so tough."
Byram gushed about her other half, a tv producer whom she met in 2014 and wed last year, saying "it all made sense" when she met her husband and he "ticked every box".
"He also calms me down when I get wound up and stressed. I like everything to be right - I'm a bit of a control freak."
She added they are trying for a baby, but understand "if it's not meant to be".
"We have a lot of love in our lives and people to live."
The former model has always been vocal about her desire to start a family, saying "you can't really plan" the curveballs life can sometimes throw at you."
"I hope we have kids. I do. I always say you can’t really plan that kind of stuff, and even if you try, you can’t," she previously said.
"I have no idea what kind of mum I would be. I don’t think you can know that until you actually get into that situation.
"You always anticipate you will be one way and then you’ll be another way. I will have to wait and see."
Meanwhile, Byram is gearing up for the final of the debut season of DWTS this Sunday as Kerry GAA star Aidan O'Mahony and actresses Denise McCormack and Aoibhin Garrihy will fight it out for the glitterball trophy at the Ardmore Film Factory in Bray.
