Alison Alison Brie has broken her silence on the five sexual misconduct allegations made against her brother-in-law James Franco.

Brie, who wed James' brother Dave last year, was interviewed by E!'s Giuliana Rancic, who asked her about the claims, which were a talkiing point before Sunday night's ceremony, where he avoided walking the red carpet.

"What we’ve always said is that it remains vital that anyone who feels victimised should and does have the right to speak out and come forward," she said. "I obviously support my family and not everything that’s been reported is fully accurate, so I think we’re waiting to get all the information. But, of course, now is a time for listening and that’s what we’re all trying to do."

Franco was accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour by five women in a report published in the Los Angeles Times earlier this month. Prior to that, many social media users criticised him for wearing a Time's Up pin in at the Golden Globes after allegations were made by actress Ally Sheedy, which he addressed in an interview with Stephen Colbert, denying any wrongdoing.

“First of all, I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy," he said. "I directed her in a play Off Broadway, I had nothing but a great time with her, total respect for her. I have no idea why she was upset.”

"The things that I’ve heard that were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice, because they didn’t have a voice for so long. I don’t want to shut them down in any way. I think it’s a good thing and I support it."

At yesterday's Women's March in Los Angeles, actress Scarlett Johannson criticised the star, although she didn't name him specifically, but a spokesperson confirmed later that she was speaking about him.

Speaking from the podium yesterday, she said: How could a person publicly stand by an organisation that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?”

She added: "I want my pin back, by the way."
