It's okay to be a little excited about Paris Hilton's engagement.
The 36-year-old was the original Millennial 'it' girl: she gave Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie careers and if you believe her, she also invented the selfie. She's seemingly addicted to monogamy, jumping from long-term relationship to long-term relationship, but announced that she's engaged to boyfriend of two years Chris Zylka.
Who is the mystery man who captured her heart?
1. He's an actor - a good one.
Unlike Paris' sparkling film debut in 2005's House of Wax, with subsequent roles in House of Wax and The Hottie and The Nottie, Zylka is legit. He starred on cult tv show The Leftovers opposite Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler.
2. He's also been engaged before.
It might be her third time getting a ring on her finger, but this time it seems like the real deal. In 2005, she called off her six month engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis and Jason Shaw before that.
Chris also had previous plans to walk up the aisle. He was engaged to marry ex-girlfriend Hanna Beth in 2014, but they split in March 2015 - and it was messy. "Im (sic) disappointed that i didnt (sic) see how fake you were, or pay attention to the backstabbing you did in front of me. I will rise up," he wrote at the time. Ouch.
3. He's got a big heart - and has overcome real obstacles.
While studying art and playing football at the University of Toledo in Ohio, he left after two years to care for his grandfather after he had a heart attack. He credits his grandfather for helping him realise his true calling to become an actor. After moving to Los Angeles to pursue his Hollywood career, he was homeless. While working odd restaurant jobs, he was discovered by his managed Jon Simmons.
"He was eating at the restaurant and asked me if I was an actor. I said, ‘No, I want to be, but I’ve never worked before.’ From that moment on, he trained me and developed me, and one thing led to another," he told Out magazine.
4. He and Paris have known each other a long time.
The now-engaged couple first met at an Oscars party eight years ago but their relationship only turned romantic in early 2016. Yes, it's only been two years.
5. Zylka isn't his real surname.
Coming from Ukranian descent, his real last name is Settlemire, but he took his mother's maiden name of Zylka as his stage name to make his grandfather "proud".
