12 Phelim Drew Son of the mighty Dubliners’ frontman, the late gravel-voiced Ronnie Drew, Phelim is a noted actor. Having kicked off his career in the Oscar-winning movie My Left Foot, a flurry of screen roles followed, the latest of which saw him portray perturbed priest Fr Liam Plunkett in Fair City. Naturally, he enjoyed making illicit eyes at Carol, the soap’s resident siren.

11 Lottie Ryan
While the offspring of famous faces often forge a name for themselves in the spotlight, sometimes it’s under a slightly different umbrella. For example, if their parents are actors, perhaps they’ll gravitate towards singing. Not Lottie Ryan. Her father was the inimitable voice of 2FM and a familiar face on Network 2/RTÉ2 for decades, and she was quick to take up the broadcasting baton. Having spent five years sharpening her presenting skills in college, she first headed to New York to work behind the scenes on hit TV series The Good Wife. An accomplished dancer (she won Dancing with the Stars in 2020), Ryan has remained a steadfast presence in Montrose after dad Gerry died when she was 23. Meanwhile, one of her brothers, Rex, is a successful actor, and her middle sister, Bonnie, is gaining recognition as an influencer.

10 The Cusacks
All of the Cusack sisters — Sinéad, Niamh and Sorcha — took on their parents’, Cyril and Maureen, penchant for treading the boards. Their two brothers, Pádraig and Paul, preferred to stay behind the scenes instead, dominating the realms of production and direction. Half-sister Catherine, from Cyril’s second marriage to Mary Rose Cunningham, is also a stage actor and enjoyed a long-running role in Coronation Street.

9 Rosanna Davison
Given his somewhat diminutive stature, the fact that Chris de Burgh helped produce Amazonian goddess Rosanna Davison is nothing short of miraculous. Her successful modelling career resulted in being crowned Miss World in 2003. Since then, she has showcased her proficiency across a number of performative facets, before finding her niche as an author specialising in nutritional therapy.

8 Róisín O & Danny O’Reilly
Singer Mary Black must be fierce proud of her kids’ accomplishments, with two of them independently making an impact on the Irish music scene. Soloist Róisín O has been touring her new album Courageous throughout the country, while brother/Coronas frontman Danny is currently co-hosting RTÉ’s latest music-driven show The Main Stage. Their cousin, Aoife Scott, daughter of Frances Black, is also a successful singer.

7 The Walshes
First, there was Ted. Then he had Ruby, Katie, and another Ted. All of them are legendary jockeys and highly respected in the world of horse racing.

Video of the Day

6 Saoirse Ronan
Four-time Oscar-nominated actor Saoirse Ronan is the rarest of things, a star who has managed to eclipse her parents’ fame. With both Monica and Paul (AKA Anto Collins off Fair City) from the world of acting, Saoirse was sure to catch ‘the bug’, what with her experience visiting film sets — such as Veronica Guerin and The Devil’s Own — when she was a child.

5 The Brogans
Bernard Junior — he of the mighty brows and muscled arms, mostly known for hoisting the Sam Maguire Cup aloft — followed in the huge shoes of father Bernard Senior. Given the latter amassed three All-Ireland medals, plus a pivotal goal in one of the most celebrated games of all time (1977’s fabled Dublin v Kerry semi-final match), some might say Bernard Jnr and his brother Alan had to accomplish a lot to shimmy out from under daddy’s shadow. And they did. Alan also gleaned three All-Ireland medals, while Bernard earned himself a slew of titles, including seven All-Irelands and four All-Stars.

4 Nicolas Roche
Keeping with exceptional Irish sporting families, Stephen Roche is a name synonymous with the best cyclists in the world. In his most glorious year, 1987, he became the second person ever to win the coveted cycling trifecta of the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, and the Road Worlds. Undeterred by his father’s seemingly unsurpassable achievements, Nicolas has become a notable and revered sportsman in his own right, twice becoming national champion, consistently landing top 10 stage-winner spots at Vuelta a España; and representing Ireland in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. He’s also another contestant who has featured on Dancing With The Stars.

3 The Hewsons
Say what you want about Bono, his kids are undeniably a credit to him and wife Ali. While many children of rock stars have been seen gaining notoriety on the celeb party scene, the Hewsons have been quietly honing their respective talents in the background. Eve has proved to be a compelling actress, having starred in such films and TV series as This Must Be the Place, The Luminaries and Behind Her Eyes. Jordan is paving her way through the fields of tech and activism as founder of Speakable, and youngest brother John is rumoured to be quite the comedian. Elijah, meanwhile, is cultivating a following with his Inhaler bandmates.

2 Cecelia Ahern
The daughter of a certain former Taoiseach, Cecelia has managed to attain the nigh-impossible — rising to the top of Ireland’s vat of talented female writers. With two of her books notably being made into movies (P.S. I Love You and Love, Rosie), and her turn co-creating and producing Samantha Who?, plus the recent TV adaptation of ROAR, Ahern always seems to have something exciting in the works.

1 The Gleesons
Whether it’s for their impressively bushy beards or theatrical prowess, the four sons of Brendan continue to blaze a trail across screens big and small. Between joining cutting-edge dramas like Top Boy (Brian), banging out a few tunes (Fergus), or writing their latest novel/play/screenplay (Rory), there’s barely a moment when a Gleeson isn’t doing something impressive. Sure the other one (Domhnall) has been a baddie in
Star Wars.
