Stephen Fry 'wants to meet' well-known Irish salesman Mattress Mick
Media personality Stephen Fry hopes to one day meet the famed Mattress ‘Price Fighter’ and it seems the feeling is mutual.
The newlywed tweeted a snapshot of a large yellow Mattress Mick advertisement which is currently displayed on Amiens Street.
One day I hope to meet Mattress Mick. I think we'll have lots to discuss. Mattresses for example. And prices. pic.twitter.com/1aKChzZXWq— Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) February 12, 2015
The 57-year-old actor is currently in Dublin filming a new movie ‘Love and Friendship’ and was evidently quite taken by the sales superstar.
Mick, a Coolock native, became something of a Dublin icon when he released a viral rap video about mattresses in 2011. The salesman suddenly turned into an internet sensation and was even enlisted to host club nights around the capital.
Speaking to Ray D’Arcy on RTE Radio One today, Mattress Mick himself said it was a great honour to be on Fry’s Twitter account.
"The poster that he put up on Twitter is at the Five lamps in the junction at Amiens Street and Sheriff Street,” he said.
"The picture I have there is gawdy. It's yellow with a big picture of me. It creates quite an amount of attention and it must have taken his fancy," he added.
When D’Arcy questioned Mick about what type of bed he would coax Fry into purchasing, the first rate salesman answered:
"He's a big man so he would need a very good, firm mattress with good support. I'd love the opportunity to go through the whole mattress thing with him.”
In the meantime, Mick (real name Michael Flynn) said he will be heading to see Fifty Shades of Grey this weekend, but he'll be more interested in checking out what furniture the action is taking place on than the steamy storyline.
