Jennifer Maguire: My brother in law missed his only day off because he was operating on Bono’s arm
RTE star Jennifer Maguire has revealed that the doctor operating on injured U2 frontman Bono was none other than her brother in law Alan.
Writing in her column in The Irish Sun, the broadcaster told how her sister was none too pleased with the rockstar.
“She lives in the Big Apple with her family,” Jennifer told.
Jennifer’s brother in law Alan is a doctor at the New York City Hospital and he was called in on a Sunday to help save the day.
Bono (54) had been riding a bike in Central Park last November when he fell and suffered numerous injuries.
The fall resulted in three fractures to his left shoulder blade, a fractured little finger and a break to his funny bone that saw the bone fracture in six places and tear through his skin.
In total, he needed three metal plates and 18 screws inserted during the lengthy operation.
Jennifer writes that she received a text from her sister saying she was “pissed off with Bono.”
Mum-to-be Jennifer’s initial thought was “Join the queue - after U2 made everyone with an iTunes account listen to their album.”
However, the real reason for Jen’s sister’s annoyance was Alan being called in on a Sunday to perform surgery on the star, causing him to miss their planned family day.
“Alan ruined her Sunday roast and left the kids without their da on his only day off,” the 2fm Breakfast Republic presenter claimed.
“So Bono, next time your bone pops out of your arm can you keep it to yourself,” she joked, tongue-in-cheek.
The former Apprentice contestant is expecting her first baby with her actor hubbie Lau Zamparelli in early March.
“I’m going to keep working until I pop – I may just take the afternoon off to give birth,” she joked.
