Supermodel Kate Moss is back in the headlines after being removed from a flight to London this week, but it's not the first time she's been caught in a controversy.

1. Calvin Klein ad

In 1992, a Calvin Klein underwear ad required a then teenage Kate to straddle Mark Wahlberg (then Marky Mark) topless. She later described the experience as traumatic. "It didn't feel like me at all,” she told Vanity Fair in 2013. “I felt really bad straddling this buff guy. I didn't like it. I couldn't get out of bed for two weeks. I thought I was going to die.”

2. Introducing heroin chic

Her debut on the fashion scene certainly made its mark and she inspired a generation of models in the 1990s. She kicked off the so called ‘heroin chic’ movement championing pale skin and super slim bodies. She denied ever taking the class A drug or suffering from an eating disorder.

“I know I don't do heroin. Just because I wear a bit of black eyeliner that's smudged ...' But the anorexic thing was a lot more upsetting, to be held responsible for somebody's illness. I wasn't anorexic."

3 'Cocaine Kate'

In 2005, she lost several lucrative contracts with Burberry and Chanel after photos of her allegedly snorting cocaine were published. "I take full responsibility for my actions," she said in a statement after, telling "all the people I have let down" that she was sorry.

4. Splitting with Johnny Depp

She dated actor Johnny Depp from 1994 to 1998 and recently spoke of her devastation after their shock split.

“There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said,” she told Vanity Fair. “Like if I said, ‘What do I do?,’ he’d tell me. "And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!"

5. The Pete Doherty years

Her relationship with troubled rocker Pete Doherty played out in the headlines from 2005 to 2007. From pictures of them publicly rowing on a Eurostar train in 2005 to anonymous rehab treatments and even being removed from the NME Awards in 2007; their rocky romance was daily tabloid fodder. They eventually split after two years with Pete saying he was still in love with her after.

6. Posing for Playboy

How else would Kate Moss celebrate her 40th birthday other than posing for Playboy? The supermodel was the cover star in 2013 for the magazine’s 60th anniversary issue. She is seen posing topless, as she has done many times throughout her 25-year career in fashion, and donning a traditional bunny costume. Several websites were sued after for publishing Playboy’s photos from the exclusive shoot.

7. Marrying Jamie Hince

Kate wed rocker Jamie Hince in 2011 after dating for four years. Her John Galliano designed dress was, as expected, a hit in fashion circles, and featured in Vogue magazine. The Cotswolds wedding boasted 15 bridesmaids, including her daughter Lila Grace (then eight).

"He likes to do the same things that I like to do, and he's got the same sense of humour,” she said of her husband, adding it was love at first sight.

8. Smoking on the runway

During Louis Vuitton’s 2011 Autumn/Winter show at Paris Fashion Week, the supermodel, who had ‘retired’ from the runway seven years earlier, defiantly smoked a cigarette on the runway, much to the outrage of anti-smoking campaigners. Creative Director Marc Jacobs said it was intended as a symbolic representation of obsession.
