The first Miss Universe Ireland kicked off to much fanfare in 2008.
After years of shipping the same Miss Ireland winner to compete at both Miss Universe and Miss World, the ever entrepreneurial Andrea Roche spotted an opportunity and went with it. As a former title holder (she was a top 10 finalist at Miss Universe in 1998) she knew better than anyone exactly what was expected of aspiring beauty queens.
While then unknown model Lynn Kelly would eventually take home the title, it launched the career of many a top model during the Celtic Tiger hangover that was Dublin in the late noughties.
The girls filled the gossip pages and former model Caprice was brought in to MC the festivities alongside TV3’s Alan Hughes which was aired on the network.
The judges included former Miss World Rosanna Davison and tv personality Brendan O’Connor among others.
