'Eddie Redmayne looked at me and I fell off my seat' - RTE presenter Stephen Byrne starstruck Oscars night
RTE’s rising star Stephen Byrne is evidently enjoying the perks of his glamorous job, as he blagged his way into Hollywood's biggest events.
The Two Tube host spent six days at some of the entertainment industry’s most illustrious events.
"This was my biggest presenting gig to date," Stephen told Independent.ie. "I rarely get nervous anymore but I felt the pressure of bringing back the goods on this one."
Stephen took to the Oscar’s red carpet in a suit by Arnotts to interview some of the world's biggest celebrities as they attended the 87th annual Academy Awards.
"The Oscars were incredible," Stephen said, speaking from LA. "Feeling that close to something which so many people are watching around the world and that I as a movie nerd have stared at for years."
The 24-year-old Dubliner kept his Twitter followers enthralled with his escapades and antics from the red carpet on the night.
“Eddie Redmayne looked me in the eye when talking to me and I fell off my seat” and “Accidently ended up in the wrong area and had to ask someone for directions. Jaut realised that person was Ansel Elgort.(sic)” were two of our favourites.
Among the stars he had the opportunity of interviewing were winners Julianne Moore, Patricia Arquette and JK Simmons.
"I was in awe of Eddie Redmayne and Julianne. It's always amazing when interviewing someone when they are really looking you in the eye but when they do that while they're probably experiencing one of the best moments of their life, that was pretty sweet."
Before Sunday night’s glittering ceremony at the Dolby Theatre, Stephen also attended the VIP ‘Oscar Wilde Party’, which supports the Irish-US alliance in Hollywood.
At the exclusive pre-party, he rubbed shoulders with the likes of JJ Abrams, Stephen Colbert, David Duchovny, Mark Hamill and Stephen Fry.
"I've interviewed JJ Abrams a couple of times before but I got to actually properly chat with him outside of an interview for a good half an hour. He has a real affection for Ireland which is why he brought Star Wars there to film and you can tell he's just a movie geek like the rest of us," Stephen said.
"Another really special moment was Fionnula Flanagan inviting us into her home and making us toasties at the end of a hard days work," Stephen revealed. "We sat there for ages chatting about movies and Ireland. She really cares about the Irish film industry."
Meanwhile, his female co-presenter Blathnaid Treacy has swapped the studios of Montrose for the cobbles of London Fashion Week.
The blond beauty flew across the pond to report on the style and celebrity gossip from the fashion-forward capital.
The 26-year-old former child star has been tipped as RTE's 'one to watch' as her profile continues to grow.
