When you’re a member of one of the most famous families in the world, there’s always going to be a battle of the overly-preened-to-within-an-inch-of-its life ego.

It’s just a fact. And when you’re part of the Kardashian/Jenner brood where one sister is arguably the most photographed woman in the world and another is the supermodel du jour; being overshadowed by your media-courting sisters’ gargantuan personalities is largely inescapable. Such has been the story of Kourtney Kardashian so far. But we've finally seen the light. The adorable and hilarious squeaky-voiced eldest sister is the not only the funniest, shadiest and wittiest Kardashian of them all, but she’s also the most relatable.

1. She is confidence goals

When Kourtney and her sisters were recording a tribute to their momager Kris Jenner for her 60th birthday, Kourtney ordered her other sisters to step aside, saying, “Let’s face it – I’m the Beyoncé of the group.” We also remember this iconic one-liner from a couple of seasons ago when Kourtney waxed lyrical about herself, telling us, “I have the confidence of a queen!” That you do, Kourt!

2. She always looks on the bright side

When her tumultuous relationship with Scott Disick ended, Kourtney reminded us that every cloud has a silver line when she said: “Looking on the bright side, I have a bigger closet, guys! There are many bright sides, but the closet is number one.” She’s dead right.

3. Kourtney is the epitome of calmness and serenity

Back in 2010, when Kourt went into labour with her eldest son, Mason, the KUWTK kameras were obviously there to capture every step of the very intimate process. This involved Kourtney taking a shower and applying pre-labour makeup mid-contractions to ensure she looked her best for the delivery. Mason’s delivery has since gone down in TV history as it features Kourtney literally pulling the newborn from her womb with her own hands. What a woman!

4. She is the grounding force of the family

Down through the years, Kourtney has given us many iconic quips, but this one is hard to beat. When Kim’s ex-husband Kris Humphries threw the her into the Bora Bora ocean - causing Kim to lose a $75,000 earring - Kourtney offered her sister some much-needed perspective.

5. She was the first one to make us aware of Kim’s ugly crying face

Kim’s infamous crying face is now inbuilt into the iconography of pop culture, but without Kourtney’s playful taunting of her sister’s extravagant weeping, we may never have been blessed with this knowledge. Thanks, Kourtney!

6. She has the best style

Okay, maybe she ties with Kendall here, but when it comes to the fashion stakes, Kourtney is miles ahead of the rest of her family. She always does her own thing and we love her edgy and often androgynous approach to dressing. Case in point: She stood out from her sisters at Kris’ 60th Great Gatsby-themed birthday in a stunning two-piece Saint Laurent tuxedo, slaying us with femme fatale fabulousness.

7. She is the consummate professional

We could all learn a thing or two from Kourtney – in times of anger or frustration, she teaches us to internalise that emotion and not take it out on other people – no matter how much you may want to. A modern day Socrates, to be honest.

8. Behind it all, she's a loving sister

She may fight with her sisters from time to time, but in their hour of need, Kourtney is always there. Remember when Kim found out that breast milk was a good cure for psoriasis and Kourtney pumped some out for her? However, she did stop short of donating some to Kim’s cat, Mercy.

9. She responds to situations like this with the most wonderful passive hilarity

Remember when Kourtney and Kim were in New York and Kim fell off chair simply by sitting on? Kourtney couldn’t have cared less if she tried and we are obsessed with her for it.

10. She teaches us to be our own everything

No words needed.
