The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at The Curragh is always the highlight of the summer racing calendar, with the richest race in Ireland and seriously chic fashion.
I was invited to judge the Best Dressed Person competition alongside Breeda McLoughin, and we were photographed at lunch with her husband, Colm, Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free, which has been sponsoring the Irish Derby for 12 years. I lunched with our third style judge, Lorraine Keane and with Sinead El Sibai (left), Senior VP of Marketing with DDF, and Kildare PR Aileen O'Brien. Guests included new MEP Frances Fitzgerald, off to Strasbourg for the start of the new term of the European Parliament. We chatted with the British Ambassador to Ireland, HE Robin Barnett, and his lovely partner, Agnieszka Kepka, and the ambassador gallantly offered to take photos of us ladies on his phone.
Teacher Moira O'Toole from Kilkenny won a coveted Best Dressed title and a luxury trip for two to Dubai, staying at the five-star Jumeirah Creekside Hotel for five nights, and it was especially sweet as her husband, Michael, has only recently retired from An Garda Síochána.
Celebrity chef, food lecturer and actor too! Edward Hayden will be performing works by John B Keane including Big Maggie and The Field at Kilkenny's Watergate Theatre next Thursday in aid of the Carlow-Kilkenny Home Care Team. Tickets from (056) 776 1674.
