Triona McCarthy: Red hot lipstick
Brighter days cry out forbrighter shades of lippy, like a raunchy red, accordingto Triona McCarthy, ourresident hot lips
Do you like the iconic Lulu Guinness Lips clutch bag in my photo this week? If those lips could talk, they’d tell some stories.
Anyway, speaking of lips, lipstick was languishing at the bottom of beauty charts, but it has made a serious comeback of late, with lipstick sales now catching up on lipgloss, according to the latest figures from the NPD Group — research experts in the beauty market.
So ladies, it’s all about statement lips in bold colours.
First, prep your lips by rubbing them with an old toothbrush, then layer on some Vaseline, from 99c.
Now for some colour. There’s a red out there for everybody, you just need to find it.
I don’t know anybody that doesn’t look good in Mac’s Russian Red, €18.
Or, for a softer look, press some colour on to your lips using your middle finger.
Again, says NPD, the best-selling lipsticks are Mac Lipstick, Clinique Long Last Soft Shine, Estee Lauder Pure Color, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine and Lancome L’Absolu Rouge.
But, if you want a red that won’t budge, Maybelline New York Superstay 24hr Lipcolor, in Red Passion, €13.89, is great.
Finally, an oldie but a goldie: to stop lipstick ending up on your teeth, put a finger in your mouth and slowly drag it out to remove any colour inside your lips.
