Triona's trends: Races, regattas, weddings, festivals, barbecues; seriously, with everyone on Facebook uploading pics of your antics, you need to know how to event-proof your
make-up. Sometimes, you need to go high maintenance to go low maintenance; before an event, get a spray tan, an eyebrow tint, a lash tint and a three-week mani and pedi. On the day itself, I like Creme de La Mer’s SPF 30 UV Fluide De La Mer, €52, a transparent fluid formula and an ideal make-up primer. Or Make Up For Ever’s UV Prime SPF 50, €30, which creates a smooth canvas by minimising pores and fine lines. After applying foundation, set it with powder so that your coverage won’t budge.
For a matt finish, Karaja’s new Pressed Powder, €21, is sheer, light and quickly absorbed for an even complexion. Sunshimmer Compact Powder €7.25, blends easily for a sunkissed look. If you want your lipstick to survive multiple drinks, fill your lips in completely with your favourite lip-liner, as the wax from the pencil makes a great base for layering on your lip colour. For eyes, try Armani’s Eyes to Kill Intense, €26. It’s waterproof, sweat-proof, and crease-proof, and it comes in amazing metallic colour combos too. Finally, to keep your face flawless, air-kiss like me, above, or high-five!
Whenever I’m in a beer garden I end up with a bug-bitten arse! Not from my love bug, Will, but from midges and mini monsters. Seriously — bugs just love biting me. I find ice stops the itching, but even better than ice is mouthwash! The mint and alcohol combination makes a cooling sensation to stop itching. And bitching about it!

It was gorgeous Gareth O’Shea from the perfume counter in Brown Thomas who turned me on to this girly gadget. Penhaligon’s Travel Atomiser, €15, is a handy 4ml size, which makes it possible to take your favourite perfume with you, wherever you go. It’s especially good for air travel and for decanting your fave fragrance from one of those big, show-off bottles that are just too heavy to lug around in your handbag on a day-to-day basis. Simply fill it directly from your fragrance bottle in seconds.
It would make a great gift as it’s beautifully packaged, and it looks way more expensive than it actually is. You could go all out and get a fragrance from Penhaligon’s as well. Right now I’m loving the Night Scented Stock, €102.50. I love their philosophy that fragrance is liquid emotion and unlocks memories; it can stop us in our tracks, lost somewhere for a moment in time. Mmm . . .
I’m always being asked what my favourite moisturiser, eye cream or whatever is, and it’s a difficult question to answer. Everyone has different boxes that need ticking. But I’ve discovered Uriage, a French skincare brand recently launched in Ireland, which uses the special thermal waters from Uriage in the French Alps. The huge range has products for every skin type and, best of all, all under €20.
Their hero product is Eau Thermale D’Uriage, from €5, a water spray in a can, which soothes, protects and moisturises, leaving the skin radiant. It refreshes and sets make-up too. My boyfriend Will has been trying out the Hyseac range, which combats blemishes as soon as inflammation occurs. If your skin is prone to redness and tightness or even rosacea, then the soothing Roseliane range is for you. The Bariederm range is a unique barrier formulation specially for dermatitis sufferers, and skins prone to irritation and sensitive to chemicals. For stockists, tel: (01) 662-8585

There were those who doubted the five-star Park Hotel Kenmare could get any better. But this summer, there’s even more to enjoy. Earlier this year, Sisley’s skincare’s Sisleya Global Anti-Age and Supremya products and facials were introduced in the Samas spa, taking the treatments menu from special to superior. The renowned skincare line is beloved by women who believe the benefits really show in terms of elasticity and anti-ageing, but the facials and body treatments are about using products in tandem with targeted touch to really uplift the skin.
Even better, if your spa treatment is a way to escape the cares of the world, the facials, which work on every muscle in your face, are a glorious two hours long. The body treatments are 60 minutes of aromatic balms, Asian massage and guided breathing. The Park Hotel Kenmare is offering LIFE readers a special deal of two nights’ B&B, one dinner and one spa treatment in Samas, including any Sisley one-hour treatment, worth €165, for €495pp sharing. I am the queen of dry shampoo. Seriously, I love the stuff: I’ve got greasy hair like Liv Tyler, pictured right, so I’ve tried ‘em all. My new fave is Frederic Fekkai Au Naturel Dry Shampoo, €32. It means that I can get a blow dry on Monday, then, when Wednesday comes, I use this and that way I can stretch my hair until Friday. My top tip with this product is not to use a light hand. You need a lot to cut through the grease, but it gives great volume to your hair.
