Triona's trends: I’m all for tips and tricks to make me look younger naturally, so for all you mothers out there this is my Mother’s Day gift to you. I know how to give yourself an instant facelift. Simply pile your hair high and pull it into a bun: bang on trend, this also gives an instant-facelift effect as it pulls the skin around the face taut.

A piled-up hair do is super-easy to DIY. I prefer second-day hair to work with as it has more texture and it’s easier to style. But if you must wash beforehand then use Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier, €10, when your hair is wet to prime it before you style it. If you have time, try using a curling tongs or the Yogi Styling Wand, €69, available at Peter Mark salons nationwide. Only curl the bottom half of your hair to avoid kinks near the scalp.

Now you’re ready to pull hair into a high ponytail. Use a brush to gather the hair up to the crown of the head; the higher the better. Then bind the ponytail with a go-go. This gives you the facelift effect. Result. Top tip: My lovely friend, celebrity hairdresser James Brown, of E4’s Great British Hairdresser, gave me this great trick. The trick to using bobby pins and prevent them slipping is to crisscross each pair to make an X.

Now finish off with lots of hairspray like my favourite Elnett, from €4.15. Apparently it’s the nozzle that makes it a cult product. The spray is fine and spreads evenly throughout hair, and it doesn’t feel sticky.

Triona's tricks

Not a broken nail, and just before you head out, too . . . Don’t panic, I know just what to do. Reach for some superglue. Seriously, instead of tearing off the nail when it breaks, put a tiny dab of superglue over the split, and paint a layer of polish over it to seal the crack.

Easy when you know how.

Cult product

I’m McLovin’ Max Factor’s Lipfinity Lasting Lip Tints, €9.99. They’re like a felt-tip pen for your lips, making application a doddle.

This is a lip stain, so you’re not left with an awful ring around the outside of your lips, while the colour has faded in the middle from eating. Oooh! I deliberately licked my lips lots to test it out and, yes, it lasts the licks.

My only quibble is that a month later it ran out quite quickly and I needed to get more.

Chic and cheap

Whenever I do personal appearances, I’m always asked about ways to save money when it comes to make-up. I always say that the most important thing to get right is your foundation, and it’s worth splashing out on that and then saving on colour pieces such as eyeshadows and liners.

Right now, I’m v impressed with Catrice, a German range, especially since they had a makeover. Their highly affordable range now comes in cleverly designed dressing-table-type presentation stands, which are easy to navigate.

Everything in this range is under a tenner. I particularly like the gel liner, €4.49, and the angled brush, €2.99, which is not unlike that of a certain prestige make-up company, but for a fraction of the price.

I wonder, does German supermodel and yummy mummy Heidi Klum, use this range?

Eye love it

Want all eyes on you? Then check out the latest lust-have from Lancome, Renergie Yeux Multiple Lift, €53. I don’t know what mum out there wouldn’t like this as a Mother’s Day gift.

You see, since its launch in 1991, Lancome’s Renergie has become the world’s number-one anti-ageing skincare range. This new formula harnesses the trends in lifting techniques to provide six visibly rejuvenating effects: a firmer eye contour; eyelids which look ‘lifted’; minimised crow’s feet, fine lines and wrinkles; diminished dark circles; reduced undereye puffiness and a more luminous eye.

To use, gently apply a small amount to the eye contour starting at the inner corner.

Then apply with the fingertips over the inner corner of the eye, over dark circles and puffiness and below the eyebrows.

Single and ready to mingle? I’ve been looking at myself in the mirror naked, as you do when you’re single and thinking about exposing your bits to someone new. There’s just one big problem — my bottom! So I decided to try out the 30-minute Image Body Peeling and Firming Treatment, €250, at Renew.

My body was polished with an anti-ageing blend of glycolic/lactic/malic acids, exfoliating and eliminating dry, dull, flaky skin.

Papaya, pineapple enzymes mixed with sweet almond oil, lemongrass and walnut shells polished my body revealing smooth and radiant skin. Combined with their Cell.U.Lift creme, €85, this refreshing, dynamic body-firming treatment eliminates skin’s uneven appearance and increases circulation. My skin felt amazing and looked tighter after just one treatment. Strange. Butt true.

Renew have moved and are now at 30 Lower Hatch St, D2, tel: (01) 661-9261 or see
