‘Mom! You forgot to tell me it’s Mother’s Day,” my nine-year-old Maxi woke me to tell me, as his sister Mini, who is eight, was hurtling towards the bed with glitter flying everywhere . Can’t believe the same ingredients created such different children.
Anyhoo, shout out to all the mothers, whether they’re godmothers, dog-mothers — it’s all about the love today. When you’re a mum, though, it can often feel like the days just melt into one another. A change of pace from a new routine is an exciting prospect when things are starting to feel monotonous. But if hopping on a plane is not possible, for me, the next best thing is a new beauty product. And, seeing as it’s Mother’s Day, there might still be time to buy one for yourself or another mum in your life.
G5 Haute Cosmétiques is taking brave steps to improve our skin by experimenting with combinations that haven’t been seen before. The line includes a molecule called MMST (aka organic silicon). It promotes cellular regeneration and natural collagen production to revitalise the skin without any invasive surgery. One of my faves is The Cream (€80, g5-hc.com), which works to increase elasticity of the skin while hydrating it and helping to renew cells.
When you’re a busy mum, a make-up routine often falls by the wayside, so the secret is products that make a difference but don’t require lots of effort — oh, and some luxury always goes down well. Armani has released a nude line to join its eye tint range of luminous finishes. Crema Nuda (€185, brownthomas.com) is lightweight, hydrating tint that also blurs imperfections, making it a hybrid multi-tasker that will save time when you’re in a rush.
Aside from noisy kids, a new perfume often gets me up in the morning. If you know a mum who is already a LancômeLa Vie est Belle fan, then introduce her to a new variation called Iris Absolu (€107, arnotts.ie), which still nods to the classic eau de parfum she would know and love.
A supplement from Advanced Nutrition Programme(€58,thechalet.ie) can also save the day. Its Skin Blue Filter works by protecting the skin from the impact of blue light by 60pc, targets discolouration, combats the signs of ageing skin and even improves skin tone.
