Triona McCarthy: Gwyneth Paltrow is a master of ‘quiet luxury’ — try it with your skincare and make-up

It’s the antithesis of ‘flashy dopamine dressing’ but how do we rock this trend in our skincare and make-up?

Let me tell you, in a hand-on-hip, wagging-my-finger kind of way, that if you pay attention to only one beauty trend this year, make it #quietluxury. Actually, it’s a mood rather than a trend, I think.

I blame Succession, the show about the ridiculously rich Roy media dynasty with their ‘stealth wealth’ wardrobe, featuring logo-free baseball caps that seem generic but are actually cashmere, and cost a cool grand!

It’s also down to Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent court appearance, wearing “clothes that never announce themselves before you do,” as my marvellous MIL Vivianne says, the OG quiet-luxury queen!

The low-key-luxe lady likes quality over quantity, so let’s get straight in there with skincare.

Lancôme Rénergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Serum, €117; Rénergie HPN 300-Peptide Cream, €109, both brownthomas.com, arnotts.ie, boots.ie and independent pharmacies nationwide

Lancôme is a must, as the iconic French brand is an example of quiet luxury’s focus on heritage, credibility, and functionality.

Their latest skincare breakthrough is Rénergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Cream,€109; the Serum is €117; brownthomas.com; arnotts.ie; boots.ie and independent pharmacies nationwide). This jar has everything your skin needs in one pot, meaning no confusing layering — it’s exactly what I imagine Shiv Roy uses!

Westman Atelier, Baby Cheeks Blush Stick, €52, Brown Thomas

Make-up wise, I’m gonna have to go with Westman Atelier by MUA Gucci Westman. The cleverly curated complexion line-up is satisfyingly easy to use as a lot of it is in stick format, so it glides on seamlessly and warms up the skin instantly.

If you only buy one thing from this easily portable range, I’d opt for the Baby Cheeks Blush Stick,€52, Brown Thomas). Go for any colour, although Minette, a peachy shade, is my personal preference as it makes my blue eyes pop!

Augustinus Bader The Eyebrow and Lash Enhancing Serum, €137, brownthomas.com

You won’t find lash extensions or tattooed brows with this look. Instead, lashes and brows can be beautifully enhanced using Augustinus Bader The Eyebrow and Lash Enhancing Serum, €137, brownthomas.com. Much easier to use than lash extensions when you’re in and out of your pool in the south of France, darling.

Le Labo, Santal 33, €80-€270, brownthomas.ie and The Loop.

Finally, fragrance. What does money smell like? Will Gwyneth be bringing out a new Goop candle called ‘I wish you well’? Only the most elegant way to tell someone to PFO. Until then, let’s talk about Le LaboSantal 33,€80-€270, brownthomas.ie; The Loop. Wear this if you want to exude confidence, as it has subtle notes of violet accord and cardamom which sit nicely next to cedarwood and leather.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to watch Succession and channel my inner Shiv by sipping on some Champagne!
