I always say I’m sooo cheesy that if you squeezed my pores, Gorgonzola would come out of them! Back to the cheese later, but for now I want to highlight how make-up brand Ciaté London has teamed up with Smiley, the company that legally trademarked the use of a smiley face back in 1972, to create a limited-edition, six-piece make-up line. This capsule collection includes eyeshadow palettes, below, £29, nail wraps and a cute mirror. See ciatelondon.com. The launch got me thinking about my number-one beauty tip — to smile, of course! It might sound a little bit cheesy, but I do believe it has a heap of positive benefits. In fact, studies show that it can lower blood pressure and boost your mood, even if you’re having a day that’s not giving you much to smile about. Beauty and health in one, what’s better than that? Don’t worry, I don’t roam the streets telling other women to “cheer up, it’ll never happen” (I really hate that!), but smiling when I can, even on my own, does wonders for me. Try it! In fact, why not do one better and try to fake laugh? It might feel a little crazy at first, but if it makes the sun shine, you’ll be doing us all a favour, and just in time for summer. Hee hee. Pass the cheese, please!
Mmmmm, I love the smell of coconut oil. But did you know that it makes a great lip balm, shaving oil and eye make-up remover, as well as being great for dry skin? I even use it on my hair to condition it or take a tiny amount and apply it to the ends of my hair to control frizz and make my hair shiny and healthy-looking.
We love a trip to ‘Fundrum’ as my daughter Mini likes to call Dundrum Town Centre, Ireland’s largest shopping centre. It has plenty of beauty and wellness options at Skinfull Affairs, Dermalogica, L’Occitane, Edvard & Pink and Peter Mark. It was the Rituals store that I headed to recently. I’m a fan — and so is Hailey Bieber, apparently — of their luxurious fragrances and products for face, body and home.
The store is perfect for popping into to experience the different collections and best of all, receive a free Luxurious Body Mists set when you make a purchase.
You can then gift yourself the ultimate pampering experience, with the ability to relax and renew in the comfort of your own home.
Mickey comes up from Mullingarvey to Dublin one weekend to go shopping.
While in BT, he comes across a black contraption and asks the assistant what it is.
“That’s a Thermos Premier Flask, sir. It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold, and costs €18.”
“Jaysus that’s great... sure I’ll take one of dem home wit me then,” says Mickey.
Mickey heads back home and brings his new Thermos in to work the following Monday.
All the other lads are asking about it.
“What’s that you’ve got there, Mickey?” they ask.
“Sure it’s a Thermos flask, so it is,” Mickey replies.
“And what does it do?” they inquire.
“Well, sure, it’s for storing food and drink, like. It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold,” he says proudly.
“Jaysus, that’s great,” they say. “And what do you have in it?” they ask him.
Mickey replies: “Two cups of tea and a Choc Ice.”
I’m all about tinted moisturisers in the summer as they feel less ‘cakey’ than foundation in the heat. A new fave is from Irish brand AYU Cosmetics, which has welcomed a BB Cream, €27.50, into the family. It blends beautifully, giving skin a glowing look with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, jojoba, and vitamin E. See ayu.ie
Summer is well and truly here and with the temperatures rising (a little!) and our clothing getting lighter, a whole new seasonal beauty routine is usually on the cards. Now we have to think about parts of our bodies that we’ve been covering up over the last few months, whether that’s our toes, legs or hair.
First up, we have Nuxe, the luxury French skincare brand that has a fab suncare collection loaded with SPFs and nourishing ingredients to protect us from harsh rays. This Sun Moisturising Protective Milky Oil for Hair, €16.90, is a mist that’s really lightweight and won’t make the hair greasy after use (my number-one pet hate when it’s hot out and I’m already a little sweaty-looking). It works to protect the locks from UVA/UVB light, but also salt and chlorine. This is thanks to the mix of jojoba oil, coconut oil and panthenol that can be spritzed over the hair before and after a swim. It also smells divine — sweet orange, tiare flower and vanilla. Yum. Our feet have never seen so much action now that we can actually leave the house, visit friends and dance in nightclubs again. If yours have been put through the wringer and need a little help looking their best in sandals and flip-flops, then check out Seoulista Peppermint Toes, €11. This is a foot treatment that only has one step — pop on the serum-infused boots for 30 minutes. They’re full of eucalyptus leaf extract, which will work its magic. There’s also peppermint leaf and shea butter in them that fight against inflammation, as well as our best friend, hyaluronic acid to further nourish the feet and toes. See seoulistabeauty.com
This next one is a bit of a mouthful – Pure Niacinamide 10 Serum, €39. This is a new one from La Roche-Posay. It’s a serum that aims to even out skin tone by targeting dark spots and problem areas that need a little help. The purple bottle is also very, very cute. The key ingredient, niacinamide, is a form of vitamin B3 found naturally within the body and when it’s applied topically, has a bevy of benefits when it comes to the skin. Find it in local pharmacies nationwide, in store and online now. See laroche-posay.ie
