Triona's trends: Nothing cheers me up more than a new lipstick, lotion or potion.

But it doesn’t have to cost a million bucks to beautify. Here are my top picks for under a tenner, dear readers, a list that will keep you looking pretty and polished all summer long.

1. Batiste Dry Shampoo, €2.89, not only extends your blow dry, but it’s great for super texture when styling your hair.

2. Catrice lipsticks, left, €4.30, from Dunnes Stores and pharmacies, have a similar texture to some of the top brands.

3. Elf Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20, €3.90, from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk, is a moisturiser, foundation and SPF: you get colour and protection all in one. Just what you need in summer and, seriously sisters, what a great price!

4. Maybelline Mascara. My current favourite is One by One Volum’ Express, right, €10.

5. St Moritz Fake Tan, €4.99, Penneys — some say this is just as nice as much spendier alternatives

6. Vaseline, from 99c, available nationwide, it has 101 uses. Seriously, no girl should be without a tub of Vaseline. I use it as a hair serum, a lip gloss, an eye make-up remover, and even after a pedicure when I’m going to bed. I rub it over my toenails so that the sheets won’t smudge the polish.

7. Rimmel 60 Seconds nail polish, right, €4.55: it does exactly what it says on the bottle.

Triona's tricks

I love working with make-up artists on shoots, as I always pick up a new trick and then I share the love with you guys! The latest trick — courtesy of Leonard Daly, make-up maestro, tel: (087) 230-7734 — is to mix up a cream concealer with some illuminator — it works really well on dark circles and doesn't sit in your lines. I use this trick all the time and I love it!

Going nude

Wanna make your paws prettier? Then check this ship out! The Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range, right, €8.99, in Gray by Gray. It’s a base coat, colour and top coat all in one bottle.

It even claims to be a growth and strengthening treatment as well. Cafe Au Lait is my fave shade, I’m wearing it in my picture above; I’m all about nudey colours at the mo. Remember to always match your nails to your knickers, as I love to say! I honestly didn’t think it would last 10 days as it claims, but here I am a week later typing this, and I have to say, my nails do not look bad at all! The tapered brush is the business, as I can coat my whole nail in one simple swipe. It’s the dog’s!

Turning back time

The thing about having bags under your eyes is that you have to find shoes to match! Hahahaha! Well, right now, I’m sorting my baggy eyes and saggy skin with Roc Multi Correxion Anti-Age Starter Kit, below, only €10 in pharmacies nationwide at the mo. See? I’m all about the value this week. This kit is perfect for women who are considering using antiage products, as it allows you to try out the range’s anti-ageing effectiveness using a one-week beauty regime.

To be honest, I got nearly two weeks out of it. The three complementary products are Roc Multi Correxion Radiance Enhancer Make-up Remover, Roc Multi Correxion Multi-Action Anti-Age Moisturiser SPF 15, and the Roc Multi Correxion Multi-Action Anti-Age Eye Cream. They are all designed to simultaneously fight the five main signs of ageing; wrinkles, sagging, dull tone, brown spots and dryness. According to the manufacturers, these products can provide women with younger, smoother, healthy-looking and more radiant skin. Nothing wrong with that.

Triona's most wanted

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who sent such beautiful and supportive Facebook messages, texts and emails after reading my story about my sister, Tricia, in LIFE magazine a few weeks ago — see www.heartofgold.ie I’m still a little bit overwhelmed by it all, to be honest. Tricia was an artist and colour was her thing, so this is how I’m going to tie this in with a beauty bit . . . Master hairdresser, Raymond Skelton, famed for his precision cutting, now has another title to his name, that of Master Colourist. With Raymond’s natural creativity, he matches skin tone and eye colour, as well as considering the client’s age, to create the perfect colour with stunning effect.

Angela Silke, Raymond’s missus, pictured right, is just next door for all your make-up bits and bobs, and so a gal is only gawjus leaving their one-stop knockout shop! Cult product

My hair mantra of the mo is: the higher the hair, the closer you are to heaven. Come on, chant with me. Slebs such as Cheryl Cole, Beyonce, pictured left, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Jennifer Lopez have all rocked big barnets, just like me. Anyhoo, I’ve recently discovered Schwarzkopf’s got2b Powder’ful Volumising Styling Powder, €4.90, as I can’t be bothered with big-brush blowdrying, heated rollers and backcombing.

Simply rub the volumising powder between your palms or apply it directly, then tip your head forward and massage the powder in, throw your head back and — wow!
