'Tis the season to reinvent
Forget January, September is definitely the month for new beginnings. After all, the start of the year is about recovering from the excesses of the last 12 months. But September, with its crisp days, is full of possibilities.
The shops are crammed with new season must-haves. Here are some of the best new beauty treats.
Bobbi Brown Eye Luxe Palette, €95 (limited edition, and exclusive to Brown Thomas)
Yes, it's certainly pricey but this gorgeous handbag-handy collection does boast all the essentials to create a glamorous eye, including a full-size Black Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara, six glittery eye shadows in bold and neutral shades and four mini brushes.
Clinique Dual Ended Almost Lipstick and Long Last Glosswear SPF15, €20 (limited edition)
Clinique's Black Honey was my favourite ever gloss, so I was distraught when it was discontinued. I wasn't alone.
The cult favourite has appeared in the company's collections on and off since 1971, and customer power saw it return to circulation a few years ago.
Its current incarnation is part of the New Black range. A seductive dual-ended product, the emollient-rich Almost Lipstick offers a soft dewy finish while the Glosswear is all about high shine.
Resistance is futile, especially if you've got a medium to dark complexion.
Nars Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliners, €25
Soft and creamy, these pencils include a built-in sharpener and the rich colours glide on easily without tugging skin. Smudge-proof, they don't cake or smear and they certainly last.
Named after some of the world's most iconic streets, such as Abbey Road (bright turquoise) and Madison Avenue (slate grey), the Via Veneto (deep black) is definitely a modern classic.
Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Cologne, €42 for 30ml
The latest launch from in-house perfumer Christine Nagel, this gorgeous blend of fresh bluebell, spicy clove, Lily of the Valley and jasmine uses white amber and musk as base notes.
Tom Ford Shade And Illuminate, €65
It's going to be all about contouring in A/W '11 (think killer cheekbones!), so this may be the perfect tool in which to invest.
Available in two shades, apply this duo with a brush to the top of your cheekbones, your nose and the end of your chin.
MAC Fatigues, €18
Part of the fabulously named MAC Me Over range, this military-inspired polish is very of-the-moment for autumn.
So if you're going to invest in just one thing this season, make it this cool shade, which is less yellow in tone than many other varieties.
