This week we continue the ongoing quest for physical perfection, on your behalf of course, and get vacuumed, rolled and heated into shape.

What is it?

Velashape is a skin skimming treatment which aims to reduce cellulite and contour the body by using a combination of bipolar radio frequencies, infra-red light energy and vacuum massage. Skin is heated, sucked rolled and toned with the end result being a smoother, firmer, cellulite-free figure.

What's the process?

Velashape works on all the usual problem areas like bums, tums and thighs. After a consultation by a trained specialist, the target areas are decided upon and a heat-activating liquid is applied to skin. A suction device containing the infra-red lights gets to work by rolling and heating skin in sections and, once Velashape has been administered, an exercise and nutrition plan is drawn up to help ensure you get the best from the treatment and minimise the build up of cellulite in the future.

How does it work?

The heat is caused by a combination of bipolar radio frequencies and infra-red light energy which combine to shrink the size of fat cells and fat chambers deep within the skin. Once a certain temperature has been reached under the skin, the rollers and the vacuum device combine to firm and tighten those wobbly bits.

Who's it for?

Velashape is recommended for anyone looking to speed up the results of a new diet or exercise plan and works to target cellulite which as we all know is notoriously difficult to target effectively through exercise alone.

How long does it take?

The consultation lasts for around 15 minutes with a further 30 minutes given over to sucking, zapping, rolling and heating those fat cells into oblivion.

Who likes it?

Kim Kardashian is reported to be a fan and was recently filmed having the treatment administered for her reality TV show 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians'. Although how Kim expects to get her star on Hollywood Boulevard with this kind of dross is anyone's guess.

Why you should...

While having your fat vacuumed, rolled and heated sounds uncomfortable, the treatment in itself is curiously satisfying.

Afterwards, my skin was left feeling smooth and taut and I did notice a slight improvement. A visible result usually takes place after two or more Veloshape sessions.

Why you shouldn't ...

As the treatment comes as an aide to a weight loss and exercise programme, deciphering how effective Veloshape actually is might be difficult. Although results are said to take place after two treatments, anyone looking for a quick fix may be disappointed as six treatments are recommended.

How much is it?

A course of six Veloshape sessions costs from €280 and is available at The Salon, Unit 1, Mayor Street, IFSC, Dublin. Call 01 611 6958 to book.
