Ruth Griffin: Bee-utiful skincare
Why honey is the wonder ingredient causing a buzz in the beauty industry
For millennia, honey has been used for its healing purposes. The ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans used honey for its health and skin benefits when dealing with wounds, coughs, sore throats, eye diseases, and for a variety of skin conditions.
Honey contains so many amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes and has more naturally occurring antioxidants (substances that reduce the negative effects of toxic free radicals) than almost any other naturally derived source. It has also been found to have antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as helping to retain moisture in the skin.
Truly, it is Mother Nature's hero ingredient - and one that the beauty industry is putting front and centre as its customers increasingly demand natural alternatives to harsh chemicals in their cosmetics.

This American skincare brand is just newly launched in Ireland, and uses the skin-boosting properties of honey and propolis throughout its products. Using propolis helps to naturally restore and maintain skin structure. Their hero product for me is the Show Your Glow Gold and Honey Beauty Mask, €60, from selected pharmacies and heyhoney.ie
