Revealed: The best beauty products of 2016
As 2016 comes to an end, we've rounded up 10 of the best products (new and old) that we discovered throughout the year. Get your pen and paper ready...
1. L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
Korean beauty brought us several new products in 2016, with cushion foundations being one of them. Each compact contains a sponge soaked in foundation, which you then dip your brush or makeup sponge in to apply. Coverage is typically sheer but buildable and has a natural finish. Cushion foundations are perfect for when you're on the go as they're compact, and we can see this trend sticking around into 2017.
2. Beverly Hills Formula Perfect White Black Toothpaste
Getting white, bright teeth has never been easier thanks to this black toothpaste. The activated charcoal works to whiten teeth each time you brush, and we can vouch that our gnashers were brighter within a few days of use.
3. Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Highlighter
If 2016 had one product to represent the year in makeup, it would be highlighter. Cream, liquid, power and pigment, highlighter became an every day makeup essential for beauty-lovers. The Becca x Jaclyn Hill highlighter in Champagne Pop sold out multiple times upon release, making it one of the most coveted products of the year.
4. Violet Voss Holy Grail Eyeshadow Palette
Have you ever seen such a beautiful palette? We think not. The Violet Voss Holy Grail Eyeshadow Palette is aptly named in that it contains every single eyeshadow colour you could ever need and, unlike many palettes, there's not one colour that wouldn't be used. It's a bit tricky to get a hold of as it's only available online, but it's certainly worth the wait.
5. Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick
Forget cream lipsticks, liquid lipsticks took over the beauty world in 2016. With releases from every brand available, and even from Kylie Jenner herself, liquid lipsticks were the talk of the town throughout the year thanks to their pigmentation, longevity and selection of shades. Once you make the swap to liquid lipsticks, you won't go back.
6. Beauty Blender
The Beauty Blender has been around for a couple of years now, and this year it cemented itself as a worthy makeup brush replacement. Use it wet or dry, for foundation, concealer or contouring - this little sponge just keeps on giving.
7. Tony Moly Sheet Masks
Another beauty trend that has stemmed from Korea, in early 2016 sheet masks began appearing on the European beauty scene. Just apply the mask straight to your face and let the ingredients do the work. You can buy a sheet mask for any skin concern, from brightening to acne fighting, plus you can pick them up online and in several beauty stores for less than a fiver.
8. Garnier Micellar Water
There's no excuse now not to take your makeup off after a night out, thanks to micellar water. Garnier Micellar Water is cheap as chips and makes removing makeup a breeze. From mascara to foundation, you can remove your full face of makeup in a few swipes, meaning you can even do it in bed. Win win.
9. Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess
Cocoa Brown's shimmering dry body oil took tan to a whole new level this year. Just a few pumps adds a glow that catches the light beautifully and you can use it anywhere at all on your body, even on your face. Even better, Golden Goddess has the Kardashian seal of approval with Khloe Kardashian raving about it on her social media platforms.
10. The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask
The Body Shop released the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask only several months ago, yet already it has gained cult beauty status. It's a cheaper alternative to the Glam Glow Super Mud mask, and works just as well, if not better, in our opinion. It's 100% vegan and works to draw out impurities and reduce the size of pores, as well as brightening the skin. Perfect for a Sunday night pamper.
