Oscar de la Renta: "A woman should be known for her signature scent"
Oscar de la Renta thinks everyone should have a signature fragrance.
The 78-year-old designer is widely renowned for his stunning evening gowns and sophisticated designs.
The star has recently perfected perfume Espirit d’Oscar – using his daughter Eliza Bolen as his muse. He describes the scent as a feminine floral-oriental perfume for the "chic and sophisticated women of a new era".
The iconic designer – who counts Sarah Jessica Parker and Demi Moore as celebrity fans – says that perfume is integral to an overall look, and a woman should be known for her signature scent.
“I say a fragrance should become part of your identity. It’s no longer Esprit d’Oscar. When I want to smell that fragrance, I want to recognise you by it,” he told StyleList. “One of the most wonderful things for a man is to walk in a room and know that that woman was here because of that lingering smell.”
The legendary designer understands that he has to continually adapt his style to suit the evolving woman. He says he wants his fragrance to embody today’s liberated and powerful females.
"Today I'm dealing with a different woman and that woman knows exactly what she wants," he said. "We're in a time for a woman to fulfil her aspirations and I think Esprit d'Oscar represents that modern woman, that woman who feels fully sure of herself and knows that the projection of fragrance is that."
