Money talks
Even the worst personal-finance ostriches among us can’t get the head in the sand deep enough these days to block out the cost-of-living concerns. Facing your finances head on is always advisable, obviously, and help is at hand from The Head Plan Finance Journal. From the helpful Denise Kenny Byrne, who previously brought us The Head Plan Journal that allows you to map out goals and achievements at your personal pace, this log works on similar lines, but with money as the focus. Broken down into 12 months, it allows you to record budgeted and actual outlays, as well as day-to-day spending. At the very least, you’ll work out where all the money disappears to each month. Summer wrapped
Adults tend to be sorted for the seaside these days, what with all the pandemic dryrobes that were purchased, but what about the poor, deprived children? Irish brand BabyBoo.ie has a range of light, soft and super-absorbent towelling robes in organic cotton in sizes for babies to 10-year-olds. The CozyBoo robes come in eight colours, with a choice of 30 shades of stitching and the option of personalisation from €5, which means your little one is unlikely to have any embarrassing robe-clash with another kid. Which is more than can be said for your damp dryrobe. SC CozyBoo robe, from €25. See babyboo.ie

Cleaning Up
Conor Palmer spent two years developing his Filthy Rich protein shakes, which are Ireland’s first plant-based offering. The result ticks pretty much every modern-day box you can think of, starting with 20g of vegan pea protein in every 330ml recyclable carton. In cacao and vanilla flavours, the shakes contain vitamin C, magnesium and calcium. The coconut-milk base is gluten-, soy- and dairy-free. Luckily, they taste good, too, which is a nice bonus to the clean-living kudos. SC Filthy Rich drinks, €3.30, are available in Spar and selected SuperValu shops nationwide, or see getfilthyrich.com for deals on multiples

Salty Sensations Ireland 2022 is the retreat you never knew you needed — or maybe you did. From August 29 to September 2, the female-owned and led Rebelle Surf school in Strandhill, Co Sligo, will bring California surf legends to their beaches for two five-day residential retreats. Under the guidance of Kassia Meador, Leah Dawson, Makala Smith and the Salty Sensations Crew from the US, they’re promising a “deep dive immersion’ into surf technique, with good food, hot tubs under the stars and eco-lodge accommodation. There are 16 spaces on each retreat, and the entry surfing level is ‘advanced beginner’. SC Salty Sensations Ireland 2022, €1,850pp, see rebellesurf.com
