Some critics think country singer Taylor Swift's look is a touch conservative, the 21-year-old is famed for her classic red carpet styling and is rarely seen without her sweeping up do, rose bud lips and winged liner.

She recently attended The Peoples Choice Awards make-up perfect in a pleated peach frock by J. Mendel which she accessorised with nude strappy heels and a simple gold bangle.

Taylor's base is more matte than dewy, so a good primer and face powder are a must. If you have darker tones this approach might not work, but those on the lighter spectrum will love Laura Mercier's Foundation Primer. Sweep over the skin before working in a full coverage foundation like Mac's Studio Fix, finger blending for a more natural finish.

Taylor has managed to avoid the usual country singer sins and is far more English Rose than Nashville Dolly. Swapping cream and powder blushes for a tint like Benetint will give the apples that sheer flush. Finish the base by sweeping a mattifying powder like Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder across the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin as the final step in a shine free finish.

As the focus of the look is Taylor's button bright lips, her trademark winged eyeliner is kept minimal. A wash of nude shadow like Bourjois Ambre Nude will give a good eye base before carefully lining the top and bottom lash lines with a kohl pencil like Benefit's Bad Gal. As this look is quite delicate, making the eyes pop is more to do with lining than colour. Try dabbing a little white eyeshadow to the inner corners of the eye before applying a liquid liner like Estee Lauder's Double Wear Zero-Smudge Liquid Eyeliner. As the shape is tricky work carefully across the top lash-line before flicking it at the edge for a winged finish. Two coats of volumising mascara like Maybelline's The Falsies should complete the eyes.

Taylor's lips tend to be pared down by day, but for the red carpet and those all-important publicity shots, reds are her colour of choice. For colour that lasts, prep lips with a primer like Guerlain KISSKISS Liplift before gently brushing a bright red lipstick like Chanel's Rouge Allure in Passion across the full width of the lips.

To finish the look, curl hair from the roots and pin into a low bun. As Taylor's look is all about control, no more than a few loose curls will suffice. What the hair lacks in volume will be compensated for with shine. For that we recommend a finish including a decent spritz of Moroccanoil's Glimmer Spray. Mannered, elegant and a world away from the cowgirl cliché - we love this look!
