Having gone from 80s pop princess to America's sweetheart on Pop Idol, X Factor USA judge Paula Abdul has softened over the years. Discovered by the Jacksons as a choreographer, the former cheerleader enjoyed a string of pop hits during the 80s and had the perm and glittering belly top to prove it.
These days Paula prefers to cut a sleeker silhouette, favouring pared down make-up and classic styling. Recently honoured at LA's 2011 Orange Ball, Paula teamed a black wrap around with sleek tresses and dramatic eye make-up. Hard to believe Paula is 48-years-old.
Paula has learnt over time to work with her tone when it comes to the base. Begin by prepping skin with a hydrating moisturiser before gently buffing a light reflecting foundation like Skin Illusion Natural Radiance by Clarins. Concealer can be dotted where needed, and the base is sealed with a sweep of loose powder.
To channel Paula's glow, choose a multi-tonal bronzer to give a more natural finish. Work along the cheekbones, the sides of the forehead and the chin for a sun kissed finish.
Paula's look has softened since her pop career, but she still likes to play up those eyes. False lashes, deep smoky shadow and plenty of liner are her signature on the red carpet and at her first public appearance since her X Factor debut her style made the most of her eyes.
To steal this, prep lids with an eyeshadow base like Sin by Urban Decay before gently working a palette of browns and coffee tones onto the socket. For lashes, falsies will give eyes that extra va-va-voom so try applying a set like Mac's 48 Lashes along the upper lids before gently lining with liquid liner. If it seems a bit much, keep the mascara off-black to soften the look.
Paula likes to keep her lips perfectly peachy and as her eyes are quite heavy, the nude lips balance things out nicely. A clear gloss like Vinyl Lip Colour by Rimmel should give the effect or if you'd prefer a touch more colour, try applying a light shade like Sweet Kiss Naturel Lipstick in Acajou Doux by Bourjois with a lipstick brush. For Paula's smoothed out tresses, use a paddle brush when blow-drying and pin back the front sections for a classic finish. We love this look!
