Louis Vuitton has confirmed its first fragrance is being created.
Rumours have been swirling that the French fashion house is planning to dip its toe into the world of perfume for several months.
The label has now confirmed they are correct and revealed renowned perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud is involved with the project.
“Making perfume is a magnificent journey, which starts with the quality of the base ingredients,” he explained to WWD.
Jacques began work on the scent on Tuesday but at the moment there are no further details available.
Making a fragrance can be a time-consuming pursuit and it isn’t even known if it will be ready for public consumption this year. It’s thought Jacques will soon begin looking for notes he wants to include in the perfume.
Once created, the scent will be available to buy exclusively in Louis Vuitton shops.
The label is best known for its luxury leather goods, as well as for sunglasses, shoes, jewellery, watches and ready-to-wear. Marc Jacobs has been the creative director of the firm since 1997.
