Good sense - Triona McCarthy gets you summer ready
Let's liven up your beauty routine, says our beauty expert, who has the right foundation, lipgloss, moisturiser and more to get you summer ready
Who doesn't love a #beautyhaul from Sephora or Ulta, but now there's no need to go abroad for one when Lidl have this very Insta-friendly Limited-Edition Tropical Summer range from Cien, which includes tanning products, oils, scrubs and beautiful Body Butter, below, €3.99, in Coconut - it also comes in Honeymelon. They're so delicious I don't even need perfume when I've used them!
Top Tip: Don't throw away the containers, as they make excellent storage jars! Peel off the sticker and wash the jar.
I'm all about the 'curated ear' at the mo, having had a daith piercing at the Maria Tash counter, at Liberty in London, recently.
A daith piercing, which is popular with the likes of Zoe Kravitz and Kylie Jenner, above, is a piercing that passes through the ear's innermost cartilage fold. I had it done on my left ear, so people know which ear to talk into, as I'm deaf in one ear. So it's not just a fashion statement!
Daith piercings are believed by many to help migraine relief, would you believe? I found that out after I posted a pic on my Insta and lots of peeps told me so!
Lierac, the famous French brand of dermo-cosmetic products is finally available here in Ireland.
J'adore Lierac Premium Day & Night Voluptuous Cream, above, €129, grahamanthony.ie, as this highly concentrated formula plumps my skin with hydration, while repairing and preventing damage.
Seriously, if you can splash the cash on this even once in your lifetime, your skin is unlikely to regret it! I swear my wrinkles seem less cavernous.
"Don't forget to put the toilet paper in the freezer!" I swear this isn't what some of Will's buddies say when they're going for an Indian! Anyhoo, if you have toddlers in the house, flatten the roll so little fingers can't unravel it as much!
Proper hardcore beauty junkies have been buying Buxom either Stateside or online, but I'm delighted to report
that the range is now available in Debenhams in Ireland. I'm going gaga for the Full-on Lip Polish, above, €18, in Dolly. The bestselling sheer, shimmering cult lip gloss has a tingling, plumping effect, and Dolly is the colour that keeps selling out, as it creates the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips, in a very natural pinky shade.
TRIONA'S TOP TRENDS
The older I get, the more I realise that foundation is definitely the most important part of my make-up routine.
When I was younger, I was all about the loudest lip colours and the shimmeriest shadows. Now I know better, as the right foundation is key to any make-up look. If you don't get it right, everything else will just look wrong, too.
Something that drives me doolally is seeing someone testing foundation on the back of their hand! You don't wear it there, and the skin on your hand is a totally different texture and colour, so stop it! In fact, a foundation that is too pale can add years to older skin. I'm naturally very pale, but if I use a foundation that's a half-shade darker than my natural skintone, it gives me a lift and makes my complexion look fresher.
I'm absolutely loving bareMinerals Original Foundation, below, €29.50, from Brown Thomas, as it only contains five pure ingredients, which means it's so pure you can sleep in it!
Yeah, I swear I've, eh, never done that! It also acts like skincare, so it's super for sensitive Irish skin. Basically, it looks like a powder, but it buffs on like a cream, and you can go from a light coverage to full coverage, depending on how much you use.
Best of all, there are 30 shades, including 10 new shades to fill in the gaps where there are more warm tones needed.
The new bareMinerals Beautiful Finish Brush, also below, €31, is specially designed to capture all the minerals, and it makes application flawless.
Top tip: Remember the application is swirl, tap, buff - and a little in the lid goes a long way!
