Get the Look : American Nomad
If spring was all about soft, natural-looking skin and even softer colouring for lips and eyes, it seems a natural progression that the look for high summer should go a step or two further.
American Nomad is upon us and it could be just be the thing if you happen to suit sun-kissed beauty.
Gone are heavy tans and blonde on blonde wag styling and in comes a look which is more hippie chick than sun-bed chic. Think surfer girl meets Charlie's Angels and look to work with colours which imitate a healthy, natural, golden glow.
Getting the base for the Nomad look requires a gentle start. Keep to natural matte finishes and build gently. As the look needs to start as naturally as possible build a subtle base with tinted moisturizer rather than foundation and use bronzers in taupes, coffees and warm tones. Layers for this should be soft and healthy.
For medium to dark skin tones try MAC's powder in Matt Bronze which will give a warm glow, and should you need to bronze more lightly a dab or two of liquid colouring like Sisleys Golden Dry Oil will spare anything too sharp. For something really sunny try Sally Hansen's Natural Beauty Sheerest Cream Bronzer.
If American Nomad is about anything it's about radiant skin, and those of us who aren't blessed with a radiant complexion can fake a healthy glow with some subtle highlighting. Dab some highlighter like Skin Illuminator by St Tropez on cheekbones and under the eyes to add a shimmer to the areas of the face the sun would touch first.
For eyes and lips, lose the sparkle. Emphasise with neutral, natural and earthy shades. Sweep on brown mascaras, like Rimmel's Glam'Eyes Mascara in Brown, and for lips use something soft rather than bold.
High Gloss in Quartz by Estee Lauder suits this look nicely.
Finally, just because American Nomad is a soft mix of sun shades doesn't mean you can't add a touch of summer fun elsewhere.
Accessorise with OPI's Hong Kong collection nail polish and if you need to take this a step further, decorate the arms with a tall, blond, tanned, surfer type - hard to get hold of at this time of year, but there may still be one on a beach near you.
