Summer is only a whisper away, so we at Independent Woman thought it might be time to turn our attentions to our complexions. We've been trying out the best face-scrubs money can buy. Here's four of our favourites.

Aldi Dead Sea Mud Scrub

Those of you wishing to take a leaf out of Cleopatra’s book may be interested in Aldi's Dead Sea Salt scrub. Whilst the queen herself may have bathed in the mud whenever she could, you can avoid paying a royal ransom on air-fares with a trip to your local Aldi.

Perfect for spot prone skin, the scrub is designed to reduce blackheads and pimples while it gently buffs away leaving skin fresh and smooth. If you prefer your scrubs without the oil this might not be for you, but sufferers of dry or problem skin will fall for it's smoothing delights. Available from Aldi €3.99.

Voya's Love A Scrub

If you like your scrub to take off the years as well as the dry skin you won't go far wrong with the anti-aging Love A Scrub from Voya. Made from hand harvested Sligo seaweed the scrub promises to improve suppleness and skin elasticity as well as toning, soothing, mosturising and giving tired skin a boost of vitamins. Voya Love Scrub works especially well on dry and sensitive skin types and smells as wholesome as the beaches it came from. Available from spa retailers nationwide from €28.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Exfoliator

This light, creamy exfoliator gently removes dead skin without irritation making it a great choice if your skin goes red after exfoliation. Using ultra-fine exfoliating crystals, the defoliator claims to stimulate cell renewal and leaves skin incredibly soft and smooth after use. Enriched with shea butter, the micro beads buffed away the dry bits in a jiffy and left me with none of the usual scrub marks. At €21 it's a bit on the pricey side but more than worth the outlay!

Angels On Bare Skin

Deep cleansing is the aim of the game with Angels on bare skin from Lush. Gentle enough to use daily, this scrub is perfect if you need to exfoliate regularly.

The formula mixes well and can be lightened to your skin routine which should make it gentle enough for frequent use. Gentle, relaxing and kind to sensitive skin, this is much more buff than scrub and the rose and lavender scent is divine. Available from Lush stores for €7.90.
