Solids, kohls and liquids - whether you've a shaky hand or steady stroke, there are plenty of eyeliner to choose from this season.

This week we at Independent Woman have been lining, defining and fluttering our way around the beauty aisles in search of the best eyeliners for the season ahead.

Here's what we found:

Ladies in search of 'come to bed' eyes can smudge themselves sexy with the latest liner from Clinique. The Limited Edition Quickliner comes double edged with a kohl and a sponge which basically means eyes can be lined, defined and textured in a jiffy. As the liner also has plenty of staying power, touch ups should be few and far between.

Available in three fabulous shades we've found ourselves rather taken by the Intense Plum. Perfect for a more flattering take on blue peepers!

Available from Clinique Counters , priced at €17.50

Looking like you lost a fight with a bag of coal is a thing of the past with Cake Liner from the Make Up Store. Perfect for ladies prone to mistakes, a little water and a few brush stokes are all that's needed to bring this liner to life and add some drama and definition.

If your liner does happen to go a little off course, the water-based formula means spills can easily be mopped up and you can be on your way again in no time - did we mention it also looks great!

Available from Make Up Store, priced at €17.50.

Anyone looking to be a little more adventurous with their liner may find the right tools in MAC's penultimate eyeliner. Combining the precision of your favorite felt tip with a liquid liner, this is perfect for lining those tougher angles. Team it with a formula that stays put come rain, hail or shine and you're onto a sure thing for the winter ahead.

Available from MAC Counters, priced at €19.

Fans of Kohl liners shouldn't have to compromise on colour with Total Intensity Eyeliner by Prestige. The soft pencil glides on easily and the paraben-free formula will appeal to the more sensitive amongst you. A word of warning though, precision is the key with these liners as the waterproof formula means that although the liner laughs last, loudest and probably longest - once it's been applied lines simply do not budge.

Available from Boots, priced at €7.79
