Eye Do - How to bat your lashes like Taylor Swift
Triona McCarthy has all the answers right here, right now
The trouble with having bags under your eyes is finding the shoes to match! Hahaha!
Even if you're not blessed with naturally long lashes, here are my top tips and product picks to achieve long, luscious lashes.
Eyelash curlers are key for the "wow" factor.
I have a Mac Full Lash Curler, above left, €22, Brown Thomas, that I simply squeeze and release to shape my lashes into a soft, upward curl.
Although, if I need va-va voom lashes, I use my Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler, below left, €17.69, to create serious shape; it's perfect for hard-to-curl lashes.
Unlike traditional curlers, which can pinch or break lashes with pressure, this uses heat to lift and curl the lashes.
Just like your hair, lashes need to be conditioned, so something like Dior Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum, €32.50, conditions the lashes, as well as working as a primer, creating a smooth surface for mascara. I'd highly recommend it for for the less lush-lashed among us.
Mascara is a very subjective thing, but Lancome Hypnose Mascara, left, €27.50, ticks all the right boxes, with a unique, curved brush that gets right to the roots.
A new one for me at the mo is Bobbi Brown Dual Ended Mascara, above, €26. Designed to be layered, this two-in-one features Everything Mascara for definition and Lash Glamour Mascara for length.
Clinique's new Lash Power Feathering Mascara, €23, available nationwide, is another new find that I'm loving right now. Practice a little patience between each coat and leave your lashes to set between each layer of mascara.
If you want a false-lash look, try Film Noir Lash Lacquer by Hourglass, €36, Harvey Nichols.
This is like a topcoat for your lashes; it creates a false-lash effect, with latex-like length, volume and shine.
Someone once told me that a blush is like a sunburn from your heart! How cute is that?
Anyhoo, you know how much I love my blusher, well, one thing peeps always ask me is where to put it. My rule is: always allow about two fingers' width from your nose to where your blusher should start.
My latest favourite perfume is the very fashionable, new Jo Malone scent – the limited-edition Silk Blossom Cologne, right, from €50, Brown Thomas.
Created by master perfumer, Marie Salamagne, this fruity, enticing new fragrance captures the irresistible scent of summer.
I adore the pink-fringed tassel that's attached to the bottle, and I swear that I haven't tried to fashion a necklace out of it!
Wahoooo! My baby brother, Gavin, married the lovely Lynn Johnson at home in west Cork on Friday.
Congratulations to the loved-up couple.
Thinking of weddings and compatibility and the like, made me think of Aromatherapy Associates Perfect Partners Bath & Shower Oils, €32.50.
The set comprises their two most popular bath oils, Deep Relax and Revive Morning. The multi-award-winning Deep Relax and Revive Morning Bath and Shower Oils offer serious relaxation or a burst of energy just when you need it.
So, for your morning wake-up call, try the Revive Morning Bath and Shower Oil. This uplifting, energising blend invigorates the senses.
Then, at night, the Deep Relax Oil will help to soothe away the stresses of the day, getting you ready for a peaceful night's sleep.
The 10 best years of a woman's life are those between 39 and 59! Hahahaha! If you like to look 10 years younger, then you're probably already a fan of Lancome's multi-award-winning Visionnaire, which launched back in 2011.
The serum was the result of 12 years of studies, inspired by the healing process of plants, to recreate exceptionally beautiful skin. Visionnaire Advanced Multi-Correcting Cream, €73, is new to the line.
It was created for women who want a richer texture to complement, or replace, a serum, but still want multiple benefits. I adore the rich oil-in-cream texture, which pretty much melts into my skin in seconds, leaving it velvety smooth.
So, with this duo, you get to start and end your day in the best possible way. See www.aromatherapy associates.com
Triona's Most Wanted
Have you ever wanted to recreate the make-up looks of the world's most glamorous celebrities, such as Taylor Swift, left?
Well, now you can if you pop down to Beauty Bootcamp in Dublin, where they are running new Celebrity Make-Up Workshops.
Liz Dwyer selected three red-carpet regulars, and designed three fast, fun evening workshops, held over three weeks, that show you how to apply your make-up professionally in the style of Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevingne and Taylor Swift.
Each week, they take you through the specific steps and application techniques required to recreate the individual celebrities' signature make-up.
I love eyeliner flicks like Taylor Swift's for that Fifties-era femme fatale look, but I'd love to learn how to do it reeeeally well.
In the Taylor Swift class, they focus on how to nail that tricky eyeliner flick, using liquid, powder and pencil effects. They explain what eye make-up colours best enhance the look, and outline tricks and tips to creating a power pout.
These classes run from 6.30pm-8.30pm on Thursdays. One course costs €40; all three classes cost €98, and include the use of all equipment and products, and a glass of bubbly.
For more details on the various courses available, see www.beauty-bootcamp.com
