Yvonne Connolly: Healthy models like Roz are a great influence for Irish girls
Former model Yvonne Connolly, the ex-wife of Ronan Keating, has said she wished she knew more about health and nutrition in her youth as she spent years existing on bad diets.
Before she married Boyzone singer Ronan, the Naas native worked prolifically as a catwalk and editorial model during the 1990s.
Now an ardent cook and baker, the mum-of-four admits she had no idea back then about what constituted a healthy diet.
"With the cards I was dealt and the genes I received I just physically could not put on weight," she told the Irish Sun on Sunday.
"And I had a very bad diet at the time it was all energy - sugar, sugar, sugar all the time, nothing healthy - and I've a much more balanced diet now."
"I'd no relationship with food. Food was just there to keep me going."
Yvonne, who reverted back to her maiden name of Connolly earlier this week, praised models such as Roz Purcell for promoting a more healthy lifestyle.
"These girls are very well known, they influence young people and they're role models so thankfully the message they're passing on is not just about being skinny, it is eating well, working out and it's the whole package, " Yvonne said.
