Sports Illustrated's first plus size model Robyn Lawley 'didn't know she was pregnant' during shoot
Curvaceous beauty Robyn Lawley “didn’t really know” she was pregnant during her Sports Illustrated shoot.
The 25-year-old model was catapulted to international fame when she was chosen as the first plus sized model to grace the pages of the coveted Swimsuit Issue.
The Australian explained the surprise reason for her glowing skin was that she was in fact pregnant at the time of the shoot.
“I was in my first trimester. I didn't really know, I had a feeling because I was very tired and I wasn't feeling very well. It was exhausting for me,” she told news outlet fashionista.com.
"You just get turned off food completely and me getting turned off food is such a rarity, so I knew something was up," she added.
Robyn is expecting her first child with partner Everest Schmidt and is due to give birth this week.
The svelte beauty has shot for Ralph Lauren, Chantelle, Barneys, Vogue Italia and Cosmopolitan, among others and flies the flag for curvier women across the world.
However, she modestly brushes off the fact that she is the "first" plus sized Sports Illustrated pin-up.
“I've always thought that 'first' anything, it's a little bit tokenistic. SI has had curvier girls, if you look back when it first launched in the '60s and '70s. Those girls were real, man,” she said. “They were sexy and I like that, that's what I aspire to as a model. I tried to go down the skinny route in the beginning of my career because that's what was in fashion.”
However it wasn’t until Kate Upton featured in the magazine last year that Robyn really thought she had a chance to make her mark.
“When I saw Kate doing so well, I thought, 'Wow, I actually might be shot for this because Heidi Klum [and others], they're still a size six or a size eight and I'm a size 12. But Kate looks a little bit more curvy, so maybe I will have a chance to do SI. ' And then for it to actually happen just blew my mind," she smiled.
