A size 22 model has made headlines as the first model of her size to be signed to a major agency.
Tess Holliday, champion of the #EffYourBeautyStandards social media campaign, has just signed to MiLk in London, a move which she says is groundbreaking in the fashion industry.
The 29-year-old said she was always told she was too short and overweight to be a model, but broke the mould as the agency announced the coup for their plus-size division, Curves.
"I feel like it's breaking ground. This is a milestone," she told the New York Daily News. "I never could have imagined that I could be here."
This was taken yesterday after hiking in the #Buderim rainforest in Australia. It was tough for me because a) I wasn't prepared & had a bikini & #aldo sandals which wasn't the best outfit (but I looked hot TBH) & b) even though I'm active it was a strenuous hike! However I pushed myself because I'm stubborn & never quit. Don't let your size limit you on missing out on the wonders the world has for you. This has ZERO to do with health & all to do with believing in yourself #effyourbeautystandards
"Every time I have a big thing happen in my career, it's an out of body experience,” Holliday added. "I'm always still that 13-year-old girl in Mississippi who people told I wasn't good enough. I never could have imagined that I could be here."
Holliday first caught the agency's eye thanks to her massive Instagram following, counting more than 308,000 followers and has accumulated nearly 630,000 Facebook likes.
She also created the #EffYourBeautyStandards campaign, which highlighted beautiful women of all shapes and sizes and was hailed as one of the world's most influential plus size models by Vogue Italia.
