Male model joins inspiring movement and poses with colostomy bag
A male model has became an overnight sensation after posting a photo of himself wearing his ileostomy bag.
Blake Beckford (33) from Stratford-upon-Avon, suffers from ulcerative colitis and last year, he was forced to have his colon removed and must wear the ileostomy bag for the rest of his life.
He had dreamed of becoming a fitness model before his 2003 diagnosis and after 10 years, he finally developed the confidence to pursue his ambitions - and he's even landed a feature in Men's Health magazine.
Mr Beckford said he's proud of his body and wants to help remove the stigma associated with colostomy bag, a sentiment shared by aspiring American model Bethany Townsend, whose photo went viral after she posed in a bikini wearing the bag last month.
"I wanted to show people that you can be confident in who you are, still be attractive, be proud of yourself and most of all embrace your ostomy," Beckford told People magazine.
"I want to show people you can still lead an active lifestyle. The response has been phenomenal.
"I always said if I could just help inspire one person who was like me who struggled with their body confidence or someone who couldn't come to terms with their illness, that's all I wanted to achieve."
