Ashley Graham reveals ex-boyfriend dumped her because he feared she'd be the same size as his mother
Ashley Graham has opened up about the moment she realised she was viewed differently because of her weight - and it started with a teenage boyfriend.
In a candid new interview with The Cut, the 27-year-old plus size supermodel revealed a high school relationship ended because her ex boyfriend said he feared she would become the same weight as his mother one day.
"That really made me hyperaware that I am a big girl, and that's how people see me," she explained.
"This is the thing: I know I'm paving the way for the next generation of girls, and they're not going to have to do this. That's what I hope. I'll take the brunt work and just handle it, and then you guys can just sail right on through."
Earlier this year, she hinted about the incident, which clearly made an impact with her.
"I've lived the torment of the names. I've lived the torment of boyfriends breaking up with me because they were afraid I was going to be too fat later in life. It's the same cycle, it doesn't matter what generation we are in. Every kid is going through the same thing," she said in March,
But one of the main reasons she is so open with her body is to change things for the next generation and ensure more inclusion of diverse women.
"I’m getting a seat at the table we’ve never had before, and I’m also pulling up a couple of seats around me. I know this isn’t about me. Just one girl is not going to change the world," she said.
