Beauty - Andrea Byrne: Five of the best facial suncreams
Apart from maybe smoking, nothing ages the skin on the face quite like the sun. To avoid premature ageing and dark spots, it's quite simple, protect the skin. Even if you're dark skinned, you really wouldn't want to opt for any less than an SPF of 20 in a hot climate.
Because it's now a competitive market, facial suncreams are far superior than years previous. If you want high protection but also a little bit of coverage, you should try Lancôme's Soleil Bronzer BB Cream and Vichy's Capital Soleil as they will give the skin a dewy, healthy finish and discreetly mask any minor imperfections.
SkinCeuticals' Sheer Mineral Defence also gives some coverage, although it's minimal. This product's greatest feat is its kindness to and protection of the skin — especially the sensitive kind.
If you have a few bob to throw around, Sisley's Sunleya G.E is a special little product, designed to do a heap of amazing things to the skin as well as keeping it sun safe. L'Occitane's Jenipapo is a pleasure to use as it's silky and easily absorbed, and gives a lovely finish to the skin. Great for under make-up. However, it's lightly fragranced so avoid it if your skin is easily irritated.
Micro Blur Skin Perfector, €28, Kiehls, available in their boutiques on 35 Wicklow St, in Dundrum Town Centre and in Arnotts
This is essentially polyfilla for the skin. A small amount smoothes the entire surface, greatly diminishing the appearance of pores and fine lines. Your make-up will thank you.
Re-Gen Oil, €4.99, Aldi, available in their stores nationwide
You would think at €4.99 that the price is the best thing about this product, but it's not. Whether you add it to your bath or apply it directly to the skin, it will leave your skin feeling seriously soft and nourished. Prolonged use promises an improvement in stretch marks and scar tissue.
