Bang for your buck - ten cult beauty buys for under €10
Does your makeup bag need an overhaul? Here are our tried and tested favourites that won't break the bank.
One thing we have learned when it comes to beauty, is that a higher price tag does not always equate a better product.
Some of our favourite staples are the lotions and potions we discovered years ago, and the impulse buys picked up doing a supermarket sweep of the local chemist.
In our books, the following ten products that all come in at under €10 are worthy of 'cult product' status.
1. Pantene’s Expert Collection Advanced Keratin Repair 2min Restorative Masque
I’m unfortunate enough to be cursed with hair as dry as the Sahara desert. This nourishing mask is an effective way to soothe hair cuticles and prevent against further damage - leave it on for up to an hour for best results. €8.99
2. Lush Lip Scrub
Ireland’s temperamental climate is known for punishing us with chapped lips, and central heating often causes a dry and flaky pout. To combat this, incorporate Lush’s sugar scrub into your beauty routine once or twice a week before bed before coating your lips in a restorative balm. €6.95
3. Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
This wonder tube has garnered an impressive reputation since its launch a few years ago. Available in four shades, the consistency of this product is light enough to look natural, but durable enough to camouflage late nights. €5.49
4. NYX Butter Gloss
If you take one of these coveted lip glosses out in public, prepare to be questioned by strangers where you picked it up. The popular American brand is relatively new to our shores and is only stocked in selected pharmacies around the country and online on Littlewoods. Since discovering this lipgloss, I won’t go back. It manages to moisturise and give great colour, with no stickiness to report. €6.49
5. Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Liner
We can single handedly blame Kylie Jenner for the resurgence in popularity of lip liners. The ubiquitous 1990s staple has once again become relevant as women learn that the can fake it ‘til they make it thanks to some strategic shading. For a daytime look, Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lip Liner in Rose, Toast, Pink or Nude is ideal. €5.50
6. Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer
Our high street hero, Penneys, has become a treasure trove for eagle eyed beauty lovers as of late. One of our favourite discoveries has been the brand Catrice, and specifically their Ultimate Lash Multimizer mascara. Expect a bold and defined look without clumps, meaning fluttering your lashes has never been so easy. €4.99
7. Cocoa Brown Gentle Bronze
The innovative false tanning brand that keeps on giving. What started as a novel ‘one hour tan’ product has expanded into a full range including impressive scrubs and moisturisers. For a buildable colour, Gentle Bronze delivers a streak-free, luxuriously smooth result. €5.99
8. Barry M Nail Paint
One of our favourite nail polishes is the perennial teenage classic by Barry M. This quick drying but long lasting formula comes in just about every colour under the sun in metallic, matte and glittering finishes to satisfy your inner magpie. €4.49
9. Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil
This kohl pencil is great for adding depth and definition to the eyes, and it also comes with a handy grooming brush, imperative for creating that arch we all desire. Unfortunately, this product only comes in three shades of brown which may be too dark for fairer Irish women. €4.65
10. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
Be honest - how many times have you woken up with half of your face left on the pillow. No matter how many times we are told that sleeping in makeup is the ultimate skin sin, there are some nights when 'cleanse, tone and moisturise' seems as challenging as climbing Everest. Enter Garnier's Micellar water, which acts almost like a hoover, drawing out makeup and grime from the pores. Better yet, one 400ml bottle will easily last you a few months, making it easier than ever to wake up fresh faced. €4
