Andrea Byrne: Five of the best spring scents
The weather may not have much of a spring feel to it, but the beauty counters are awash with fresh, new fragrances, willing you to redefine your signature smell.
So what's worth investing in? Well, if you like fruity, zesty notes, you'll adore Tom Ford's new Mandarino Di Amalfi. A gorgeous unisex cologne, it immediately transports you somewhere sunny and exotic. Like all Tom Ford's fragrances, it's addictive. You'll want to keep reapplying, despite not needing to, as Mr Ford's fragrances are made to last. A great scent for longer, sunnier days.
Katy Perry's Spring Reign, the latest of her collection, was a surprise addition to 5 of the Best. I'm not usually a massive fan of celebrity fragrances, and the packaging misled me into thinking it was for young girls, when in fact, it's romantic and sophisticated and altogether very lovely. Interestingly, it was created by Alienor Massenet, who has also created fragrances for luxury French/Irish perfume brand Memo, which might explain why the fragrance is so nice. And, at €19.95, its price is pretty pleasant too.
As the name suggests, Chloe's Love Story is wonderfully romantic and ladylike. With notes of neroli, orange flower and cedarwood, it's a warm, easy, unfussy, entirely wearable scent, perfect for occasions that require soft fragrancing.
Chanel's new limited edition Coco Mademoiselle Coffrett would be a gorgeous Mother's Day gift, as it contains a 50ml bottle of the iconic fragrance as well as a purse spray and three refills - ideal for keeping this much-loved fragrance maintained throughout the day. In case you're not familiar with the scent, Coco Mademoiselle is an Eau de Parfum, so it's a strong scent, but its predominately-floral-based notes aren't overpowering and therefore it's perfect for daytime.
I've been wearing Giorgio Armani's Pivoine Suzhou for a couple of weeks now, and I think it has graduated to one of my all-time favourites. It's unique, but at the same time manages to be appreciat ed by both sexes, which is no easy feat. Perfect for day or night, whatever the weather.

Tom Ford, available in Brown Thomas Dublin. As the name suggests, this smells like a holiday in a bottle and I'm just a little bit addicted.

Chloe, available in selected department stores nationwide. Smells as pretty as it looks. Light, soft and fresh with warm orange blossom at the heart of it.
Spring Reign by Katy Perry, €19.95 (30ml)
